Hungry Lioncubs

I never had any lions befor in any of my zoo's, but since next weeks challenge is about lions I thought I would get some. I have started small, with one male and four females. And just a few moments ago, I got my first lioncubs. Only two so far.

Now to the wierd part. Two years ago, I had 17k in feeding costs in my zoo, but last year (the year the two cubs were born), the feeding cost have gone up to 33k!!! Nothing else have changed when it comes to the animals in the zoo and I have not changed any of the food qualitys. The only change is the two new lion cubs.

How much food can two cubs eat??? How is it even possible that my feedingcost have almost doubbled because of two small kittys!! this is beyond stupid -.-

I guess I will just have to make another zoo for this challenge -.- Last challenge my Elephant zoo was minus 11 million at the end, have a feeling I will hit minus 20 million with ease next challenge.

But they really have to look into this, it's completly unrealistic that a few lioncubs can increase the feeding cost by this much.... You have to have an extremly profitable zoo to be able to have an even semilarge pack of lions :(

Ok, so it's been a few more ingame years and I have noticed that the feeding cost change alot from year to year. One year it's 17k, the next 33k, then 25k, then 49k!! and so on.

Now I have one more lioncub and my profit have gone from about 40k a year to just under 10k :( one more cub and I start to loose money....

Feeding costs still haven't been fixed and it's been discussed A LOT around here. It's one of the reasons why I switched over to sandbox completely...as much as I like playing franchise mode, the unrealistic feeding costs that are all over the place and thousands of guests that are needed to keep the zoo running killing the performance simply aren't worth it for me anymore.

I think a lot of people mentioned it..

They could lower the feeding costs for offspring.
(like 50% costs for offspring or 10% when it comes to certain reptiles species)

I think Arrakai's option of making a zoo just for a challenge (not thinking about your bank balance) is the most likely option to go with.
Especially with high costs animals..

Tbh, per year is not the best way to compare.. Really depends on how much the zoo keeper fills up the food trays.. If they decide to fill it up in December instead of January, the comparison isn't that reliable - compared to an earlier year.

to a certain degree, you can compansate the high feeding cost of lions or elefants, with medium to high attractive animals, with relatively low feeding costs. For me, the rhino (panzernashorn) works very good for this. another cat like the much cheeper but very attractive cheetah (Gepard) may work or any kind of bear. rhinos and bears normaly have just 1 or 2 offspring, so they dont get out of control so fast. bad idea is garial or crokodil, they also may break your zoo with too many offspring in certain situations in addition to elephant and lions. it is absolutely possible to have two lionhabitats with 3 female 1 male each and max offspring and healthy finances, but it depends on the rest of your zoo.

Applies to a lot of reptiles, they have a lot of offspring in a short period.

Personally i think it's still a great option. They are cheap - but you have to keep them on contraceptives almost the entire time.
They've got very long live-spans so overall a good investment, bring in a lot of donations (especially tortoises). Not every species in your zoo have to breed.

Cheetah is a great option, they also mature pretty fast which means you can sell offspring really fast. And they have really good appeal for their costs.

5 star lions is a bit more challenging, you'll need to plan out your breeding program if you are going to do this in your main zoo.
Especially when profits aren't that great either..

I've started a new zoo now for the lion challenge. I won't put in the lions untill I have enough money to build everything I need. The goal is to have a zoo that can house almost 100 lions, will be fun to see what kind of feeding cost I will end up with :p

Oh and one thing i just realised that is important to keep in mind for next weeks challenge. Lions get sterile at 15 years, so you will have to release it befor they turn 15!

The lions I had got five stars at around 10 years, but it can happen sooner too. If they are high in size and longevity and are near 100% in welfare then it should be no problem getting five stars befor age 15 :)

And remember that lions become adults way sooner than Elephants, so that is a factor too

Hmm seems like they increased the goal of the next challenge from 10k to 30k. This is gonna be a though one :/
I think too many people are preparing for this one..
Oh well, challenges are supposed to be challenging :p

Will start this weekend to prepare a bit for this event

Ready for the challenge to begin!
Made a new zoo just for this challenge and got a bit of cash to get things started. I have 8 breeding pens, 4 juvenile pens and 4 male pens.
Already lost 500k so far, just putting the lions in their habitat (Have about 70 lions atm, but that will increase by ALOT once they start breeding :p)
Even found a really nice Pride Rock in the workshop :D
