Hutton orbital?

If I want to try the trip to Hutton, in my Cobra Mk III; do I need to have an extra fuel tank?

Thank you! :)

You shouldn't. I have heard of folks going there in a stock Sidewinder. Just fuel up before you jump in to make sure. The run will sip off of your thin reserve fuel line (just above the main line) (that sounded like a Star Wars quote :)) and maybe refill that reserve from the main tank once or twice.

I think it used like a reserve line and a half in a Python IIRC.

probably never going to Hutton; got my mug early on... other time i burned fuel for 3 hr though, trying to SC to other system jump range; didn't work, but eventually my weight decreased so i could jump

I have played this game for more than a year, and still have not found the courage to take the trip...
It is on my to-do list though :)

..one day..

I think I stupidly accepted a mission to take something there. I went and folded laundry during the trip if I remember right.

Tell you what. I notice you are not Elite in exploration rank.... go exploring and bring 10M of data to Hutton Orbital and the team here will send you (as we have with a couple of hundred others) a Hutton Orbital Truckers Flight Patch #forthemug

Kill two birds with one stone.

Uuh, Vingtetun - is that a promise to anybody? If the DWE guys find out, you'll be swamped with exploration data. And with people queuing in front of cubicle 3. As anything is better than using your in-ship chem toilet for more than 3 months ...
Btw, how much is a full inside out cleaning job for an Asp Explorer at Hutton Orbital? :)

You don't have to... it's automagic.
Hehe... Ok? :)
Who knows best?

I have indeed noticed that thin orange line.
Being an avid scooper, I have also noticed that this thin orange line does NOT fill up, even though the scoop indicator tells me the job is done.

So when that helpful Commander broondog informs me that it is wise to refill the reserve tank, that kind of makes sense.
And that it's just me that don't know how.

Now, I may be wrong, but the only times I have seen it go full, is when I refuel at a station.

Help!

*sigh*...really ticks me off when people moan about not having all the game content dropped in their lap for them.

I saw this in another thread but not seen a whole thread dedicated to it. The bottom line is that games should have content you actually need to work to get. There are apparently going to be crybabies about it, but if you want a game where all the content is available to you in a few clicks go download Pac-man or something. Otherwise, accept that there are some things in the game you have to work for.

Your in-system supercruise fuels from the thin line.
Once it drains completely it refills from the main tank, but since it's only like about 10% you don't notice it.

Or something like that at least...

I think it's 1 tonne of fuel at a time. So the bigger your fuel tank, the less you notice it.

Oh!
Well, thank you! :)

What is Hutton like, this time of year?

I hear the Sherpas are putting in a ski lift to the peak of Everest to combat complaints about lack of accessibility for the lazy. Then they can hop off at the top, look around and go, "Meh, is that all it is?" then hop back on for the trip down for a one star rating on Travelocity.

Not sure why I mentioned that. Hardly applicable to the OP.

I agree with OP. Things should be closer. When oh when will FD wake up and move Beagle Point to 10LY from the bubble! It's taken me months to get there! And I've had to fuel scoop nearly 4,500 times! This is not acceptable! ;)

That's what I was thinking. 1T of fuel that is.

I had always wondered what the reservoir % number was on the Station Services screen but never really gave it much thought. I just fueled up and it maxed and off I went.

Then during on of my Hutton runs I happened to notice that the line was slowly creeping down so I watched it (like what else did I have to do for all that time? ;)). When it emptied during SC and then topped off while taking a little blip from the main tank it all became clear.

I had read in the manual that different things consume fuel (boost, SC and such) but I always expected my main tank to show signs of depletion, not that thin little line.

I guess that was one of the things I learned by going to Hutton.

A visit to Hutton is a right of passage all CMDR should do. My first visit was picking up a mission in Sol early in my career. I didn't fully understand the distance and thought the 90 mins was an error... It wasn't! Since then I've been a few times. People even got there in Cutter and Anacondas (as I have) even though they can't land!
Grab a book, Alt TAB to a film and head out
FTM!

the numbers on your fuel guage tell you how many tons an hour your ship is burning from the reserve tank, right now my Asp is burning 1.70 tons an hour so with a 32 ton tank I could supercruise for about 18 hours (roughly speaking) from a full tank and full reserve tank. The reserve tank syphons off from the main fuel tank when it needs replenishing... The situation you want to always avoid is having your main fuel tank empty and your reserve tank almost empty...

Also while scooping if the reserve tank drains and replenishes from the main tank, the main tank will resume refilling from the scooped fuel, I have seen that first hand numerous times

Same as ever... little to do but relax in the bar, and drink gin from a mug made from recycled salvage... Of course, there IS the kudos of saying you've been there.
Personally I try to take every new ship there as a shakedown cruise... though my Vulture went straight into battle and hasn't been yet.

Oh, and there's Hutton Orbital Radio, which we even have on in the car these days when trucking into Cambridge
