Parks Hydra Lake

Wow, a multi-fatality wagon wreck ;) Like once I went to a 25-vehicle pile-up. Literally. An 18-wheeler carrying 24 previously flattened cars all neatly stacked tipped over going around a curve :)

Anyway, more nice scenifying. I'm steeling ideas getting new inspiration with every pic :)

Lol yeah it's all to give Rivertown the feel that something's a little off/creepy. On one of the bridges there's a skeleton in a cage in amongst some nice floral planters, all the while the relaxing river/banjo/ campfire music is playing.

Ha ha imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! But in reality my ides are gleaned from things I've seen from real parks too.

Over on the US side of the pond, banjos can have, depending on context, a creepiness to them. It mostly comes from the Burt Reynolds movie "Deliverance". And in that regard, I have a sticker on my kayak that says "Paddle faster. I hear banjos!" :D

Most of my ideas come from congenital madness enhanced by absynthe. Plus what I steal from draw inspiration from :D

Ah! Perfect. I'm Aussie, so I'm not aware of all the subtleties associated with the southern(-ish) culture which I'm obviously drawing from... fortunately appropriation taboos haven't reached themeparks yet! I like to think of it as a hybrid of Aussie bush/American south.. the church is very Australian gold rush era.

Hahaha that sounds ominous! I like it!

Great big park. I love big parks :). I think you are coaster lay outs are among the best.

Thanks Coastercad! I'm a Nolimits player so I've been doing them for years :).

Just a quick update on the Plasma station/coaster area.

0LaO0Yq.jpg

Just a dark, brooding building.

KdLsHUq.jpg

The ride's name is Plasma, but I'm still not totally sure of the situation/story yet.

u6MGFu4.jpg

It's a reactor/type building in a garden setting, that's all I know at the moment!

I need to fill in this area but I'm running out of things to put there... I was intending to make it a food court, but my vendors are closing as it is. Hopefully the next update might bring something!

Complete overview.

Well, it needs some of the blue spaceship exhausts for the plasma effect ;)

Anyway, looks quite nice.

Yeah I read that Plasma is usually blue/red when it comes to fuel... that's why the car colours are like that, but I'm liking the look of the green lights on the building. I'll figure out some way of incorporating them!

Just another small update with some tweaks to some things, and the Tri-storm! Yay!

nYZBbrK.jpg

I've done some alterations to the last half of Plasma... the overbank helix and transition into the last turn were messy and quite severe with the speed, so I made the helix wider/smoother and the banking S curve longer.

nHyjkW7.jpg

Looks better too.

And the Troika was the perfect ride to round out Odyssey Island, and in honour of this, it is called Odyssey.

JIcZWeB.jpg

P7WPiax.jpg

I'd still like to put a little shopping area in too.

gTpOEBy.jpg

A perspective I haven't shown... the Odyssey-side eastern entrance.

1UAvH6b.jpg

I've also brought the river in here.

wIsYc5p.jpg

Some more foliage for vistas.

XxHhEUR.jpg

Also the kink in the path has been fixed here.

This whole park looks like it's capable of flight. It has a sort of, I dunno, "airiness" to it, like it might just decide to take advantage of a passing updraft and waft off over the horizon. Very dreamlike, despite the tons of steel tangled around everything. That's an amazing accomplishment in my book. I hope that's what you were going for, but if not, congrats on achieving it anyway ;)

^^ Thanks jimmygarison!

^ Ha ha I have to say I've never thought of it that way before, but theme parks are there to give you an escape so it's a very, very nice compliment! My aim is to make believable worlds, in both reality and the fantasy they are representing, but that will feel transcendent... filled with surprise. Thanks!

I've now worked more on the Odyssey/Monorail Station area which I think has completed the main infrastructure for the area.

HRjtxlD.jpg

Trying to make a little more sense of this area... it's a bit of a lifeless void still. I guess that fits in with the Sci-fi theme.

CBY3Kur.jpg

Project Air has received a finale element, complete with sound effects.

3PhjZpl.jpg

A new building has been added to this area to further the 'Pilot Academy' theme.

taxSOe3.jpg

A sort of an Air Traffic Control Tower of the future.

wGSz2Vi.jpg

So this has become a proper area.

wCasydj.jpg

Monorail Station.

HGCuGDS.jpg

0Fwkm7P.jpg

Odyssey has a cover and sign and some plantings.

pJTiZDy.jpg

And I finally figured out how to keep vendors happy (give em an astronomical payrise). So another little shopping precinct.

LEydNWL.jpg

Called Odyssey Square.

ICx9oqt.jpg

As I said it kinda rounds out the area for me. I might put a few more buildings here and there but I'm glad there's some life on the eastern side now.

Well, I think it's fitting. And having felt that, and tried to articulate it, I've been trying to analyze what gave me that impression ever since. I think it's a combination of mostly light colors for your buildings, keeping all buildings relatively low and fairly small, and not having many contour lines across the park. It's got enough terrain height variation to not be boring, but not so much that the park appears to be part of the ground. Instead , it's like it was lightly draped across the ground by the whim of a passing breeze, and will soon be moved by the next. Above this gossamer generality, you've only got the elegant, soaring curves of steel coasters with their widely spaced supports, pulling the eye upwards. I get the vibe of a dandelion seed pausing for a few seconds on my windowsill. And your last batch of pics does nothing to change this picture, only enhance it.

So another little update as the work gets more into what I lovingly call minutia. I think I enjoy building buildings and whatnot more since I'm a bit more practiced at it, but I'd still rather wrangle a rollercoaster any day. It's always worth it in the end though.

tFqrsyh.jpg

The main focus has been developing the Boardwalk into a distinct area.

BTddlQ0.jpg

Rockwork under the Chair Swing.

3JYzZum.jpg

Donuts and Soft Drink. Taking design cues from the monorail station behind.

7Z5EgjJ.jpg

Scizzer. Because we can't call it anything else. [cry]

CMqOIPB.jpg

There will be more fairgroundish signs around. Tastefully placed of course.

fhDTv3L.jpg

The shops at the lower end of the Wilderness area below River Town have been given bodies.

6pRDHpx.jpg

It's a break in the substantial walk between Rivertown and Odyssey Island. I'm still contemplating whether or not to put a mini Pirate cove area around the water/river/inlet to the right.

ELRSzXp.jpg

I like that if you glimpse through the bushes you can see the River Town Express drop into the tunnel.

cARSlSh.jpg

A few more scenery items to the Wilderness area... a windmill, a caravan (I think that's what it is), and some more rocks and things.

wkXvxwF.jpg

The challenge with this area is that I hadn't seen it properly since I did Odyssey Island, and a few of the big coasters were ruining the continuity of the area, but placing too many/certain types of trees ruined the look I wanted. I'm pretty happy with the look of it now. Maybe.

uj56in8.jpg

And just to finish, I've filled in this area a bit more to make the coaster look like it's supposed to go there.

mTyVArE.jpg

Trying to make the last turn of Project Air interesting. I think i'm going to bring the Robotix building out so that it hangs out over the track a little, so it feels more immersive. The idea is that while most of Odyssey Island is pruned and neat this is a little overgrown corner Project Air speeds through.

Ah, good. If you're getting into finishing touches, then hopefully I'll be able to see this for myself soon :) It's really looking great!

Yes! But the only problem with finishing touches is they take me ages! I really want all queue buildings to have guts and theming... a lot of them are empty shells at the moment. I'm hoping to be finished by April though. As you'll see the updates are probably going to become bits and pieces added.

QmFt4hR.jpg

5mPGCaA.jpg

More of the Boardwalk, giving it a vibrant carnival atmosphere. And gorgeous Gulpee of course.

YdJj5O3.jpg

Some colourful signs added to Scizzer, and an entertainment point.

jD80UBl.jpg

Giving Whirler a bit of a brand. So happy people are actually going on the rides now too ha ha.

4mIqRQw.jpg

A mixture of shops with Werewolf wall riding the back of the building.

axSwsdM.jpg

Vi4R11z.jpg

Oh yeah and a big fat Bumper Cars.

OZgo0nS.jpg

qGtRnSR.jpg

And a covering for Wave Swinger's queue.

ffjTL40.jpg

Overview. Now to figure out what to do with either end.

I like that idea of using the vinyl awnings for roofs. I'd never thought of that. But it looks really good. Thanks! :)

I also like that 2nd pic, where the Gulpeesaurus just happens to look like he's sprouted a peacock tail :D

Anyway, yeah, finishing touches can take a while. I tend to do the building interiors as I go, mostly because they're usually trusses holding up the roof, or I need to make the queue fit the building and the building fit the queue. But I always have to go back and tweak the lights, add a few details, hide imperfections with strategically placed bushes or other scenery, etc. Or just tear the whole thing down and start over :)

Yeah one thing I've learned through this park is you need to have foresight of where you place the queues. A lot of mine are very messy under the hood... gonna have to fix that with some building bits and scenery. Although when I counted them there were only about 8 or 9 that I need to do so that's doable.

This is looking awesome! Next coaster (If you build any more, you have a ton) could be a Euro fighter, I would think that would round up the coaster selection.[big grin]
