Newcomer / Intro Hyperspace takes too long

With them both using the same key, you'd have to untarget, jump into supercruise, fly around the planet enough, then retarget and jump. But with two different keys, you keep the target and use the supercruise key to get around the obstacle.
You don't have to unlock your other system destination.
Keep it locked, then you select something inside current system, but it doesn't cancel your lock on next system.
What you need though is to bind the key that will select your next destination (it's not bound by default).
So I select system to jump to, there is obstacle on the way, I select some station/planet in current system, supercruise towards it and once the original "next system" path is clear, I press space (that's what my binding is) to select next system and initiate FSD.

Well, I did play the tutorials and watched the tutorial vids, but it's not very helpful at all.
For your information, I'm using the 'Hyperspace'... The thing that goes tunnel vision sort of thing when you press 'J' on the keyboard after charging for 4 seconds?
The thing is, eventhough I'm at 'Hyperspace', it took me 1 hour to to only even go HALFWAY into that 7 lightyear distance. I even ran out of fuel and forced to destroy my ship in the process...

Excuse my term but it's rather 'FRAME SHIFT DRIVE' not 'HYPERSPACE'... sorry... But anyhow, does it really take that long? An hour?

The FSD has 2 stages: "Supercruise" or "low-wake" and "Hyperdrive" or high-wake. Both give that faint "tunneling effect" when starting but in low-wake the planets, stars, etc. remain visible and you drive around/past them. In "Hyper" or high-wake everything else: planets, stars, etc. fades out and it goes full-on "Doctor Who" tunnel with nothing but particles, streaks and clouds visible (and the ghost-noises!). If you low-wake between systems, there will be nothing there when you arrive because the "hyperspace tunnel" is really just a cleverly disguised program loading screen as is the "Exiting Orbital Cruise" animation when landing on planets. Without that hyperspace tunnel mechanic the destination system will not load and there will be nothing there if/when you arrive.

It's useful to have them as two different keys for one specific reason. Sometimes you'll have a system targeted to jump to already, like before you leave the station. You come out, get ready to jump, and the stupid planet's in the way. With them both using the same key, you'd have to untarget, jump into supercruise, fly around the planet enough, then retarget and jump. But with two different keys, you keep the target and use the supercruise key to get around the obstacle.

Hah! I've had that problem and it's very annoying. I've been holding off on targeting the new system until I'm clear of the planet, but this is better. Thanks!

Another question, how do I simply supercruise in the direction I'm pointing? It always seems to want to go somewhere specific.

Do you have a quick/easy way to pick a target that is not also behind the planet?

You can enter SC in which ever direction you want, no matter what have you targeted. You just need to have that separate "jump to supercruise" button bound.
The only reason why you couldn't jump to SC is if your ship was moving in different direction than your nose was pointing.

That's why I have the following keybindings set (for normal space flight) under FLIGHT MISCELLANEOUS:

Toggle FSD: J (default)
Enable FSD to SC: <CTRL> J

Target System LockedKey PressedResult
NOJSupercruise (facing any direction)
YESJHyperjump (once facing target)
YES but obscured<CTRL> JSupercruise (facing any direction)
then fly around the celestial body
before pressing J to hyperjump
