I am a gimbal scrub.

The Golden BB Awaits Us All.

On the Viper, it's Panel 1211R, just forward of the intake on the lower right hand strake. Hit *that* and you lose the electrical systems. :(

Gimballed for sustained, fixed for burst. Always feel like I'm dodging fire from someone else while trying to put hits on a target thus making gimballed a bit easier. Also because I'm on the downside of myelination and cerebellar control at my advanced age :)

Not sure what to say.. I am 45 old, and I am really proud with my fixed weapon skill, I get from Deadly to Elite exclusive with full fixed lasers combat Python. Sure, I can use gimbals, turrets and bigger ship, but it just not fun.

It will be very sad day indeed when I will be unable to use fixed weapon efficiently. I really hate to think that my age may prevent me to use fixed someday :(

Sorry for negative post.

I like to use fixed sometimes to break things up - particularly rail guns are cool and don't come in gimballed form.

But generally I find using gimballed weapons rather freeing. Having to point straight at the enemy to hit with my guns is a pain, particularly since FA Off makes me spacesick in seconds.

This post bring back memories of well most games. There will always be that select group of 'uber' players who think anyone using certain weapons or weapon types are inferior to their skill and treated with the upmost distain. In BF2, it was anyone who used an unlocked weapon, you could only consider yourself 'special' if you used the basic, original weapon set. In BF4 it was any weapon that used a 'lock on'. In ED, it seems some think unless you use fixed you aren't 'good' enough.

Of course all these complaints on occur after you killed them :D

To be fair, I think the 'I'm uber because I fly railgunz FA-OFF 360 noscope' movement peaked about a year ago.

That's great; for you. Not everyone has the time to put in to become that good. And a lot who have the time don't find such to be fun. Which is the purpose of playing the game. So long as you don't disparage others for playing their way, you're good in my book.

Don't understand the 'gimbals are for noobs' sentiment on the forums.

I use whatever I need to get the job done....most of the time that's gimballed weapons. It would take a lot longer to kill my quarries using fixed only, longer in the fight = more risk.

Saying that I do have a fixed weapon DBS which is great fun to fly and I enjoy that too but it's not very practical.

Being the best or 'good' in ED doesn't even remotely concern me, I don't play ED to compete and I play in solo/PG mainly. Now get me on Planetside 2 and my competitive streak shows itself, I want to have the best/better K/D and points per min.

Need to keep in mind that many people posting live in nothing but ships like the FDL, 'Vette and such. And they mostly just spend their time shooting at other people who live in nothing but ships like the FDL, 'Vette and such.

When all else fails, it's just ram it until it blows up.

I see this a lot, and while that might work for some, for me I've ripped gimballeds off every ship I use, even ones with poor hardpoint placements. For me it's fixed only, if only as a self challenge, everyone else can do what they want but I refuse to touch gimballed weapons these days, that plus landing fixed weapon shots on weapons with travel time such as PA's or railguns or cannons, or module sniping with even pulse lasers, is just so satisfying to feel that personal accomplishment.

On my Clipper I run Gimballed Mediums and Turreted Larges. The only ship I would dare use Turrets on.

Turreted Long Range pulses with long range sensors, engineered for maximum Hull Strength and Speed.
