I am about to purchase an ASP and explore, BUT

wow not even 1% thats crazy?

where does it show who discovered a system?

I am looking on the map, also in system view and not seeing this info.

Is an extra 6 ly really worth 40 million credits, when compared to an exploration fit Hauler? Even the Type 6 is a somewhat reasonable for exploring, but the Asp is hideously expensive investment for a trade that pays very little for the time you put into it.

Finding unexplored systems is not too tricky. I bagged my first unexplored planet a mere 70ly from civilised space. It really depends on where to point yourself. Most of the obvious nebula on the Sol side of the galaxy have already been visited as have all the famous/named stars. And of course you are far more likely to see explored system after explored system in direct lines back to populated space. However you don't have to go far off those beaten paths to find virgin systems.

So if getting your name on systems is your goal, then head in the direction of nothing of note and move up or down a bit off the plane of the galaxy. I have done four short range trips now (no more than 500 to 600ly out) and have nine complete systems to my name and dozens of other planets and moons. For me that itch has been scratched for now, until I get a Asp and do some much longer range stuff.

But also don't discount visiting famous places either. I went on a day trip to Betelgeuse today. Great fun. This is just off Betelgeuse 2. I could not get within 35ls of Betelgeuse 1 without my ship being on fire. I could not even see it against the star, just its orbit line frighteningly close.

It depends. If you're able to do 34ly jumps like my Asp "Long Shot" you can get out of human space and explored space pretty quickly. In a ship with shorter legs, you've got a few hours of extra hopping to do. You'll still be able to discover things - the guys like me who jump far out, skip over the nearby things.

Eventually as human proximity space gets more explored, getting farther out will be an issue. But that won't be for several years, yet.

I paid the big credits for Long Shot because I wanted to get to certain places quickly.

where you do get the number 40 million? I can deck out an ASP for 13 million

There's no fuel scoop im the link you provided. One way exploration doesn't work too well. :p

I would recommend this setup. It has all the lightest components you can use while still being able to boost. Credit goes to Nutter for figuring this out. You can remove the shield to gain more; you don't really need it out there anyway and if you're in a low star density area 0.1ly can make a difference.

P.S. Don't forget to turn off the AFMU's until you actually need them.

Thanks for all the info guys!

Just curious, How much do you get for an unexplored system roughly?

Also does the Advanced Discovery Scanner scan all the planets within the system in one thump, or do you still have to do them individually?

It scans every single one in terms of showing on your system map and stuff. In terms of doing the scan, you still have to fly up and scan them out. It just helps to show you where they are and it is SWEET NO MORE FLYING AROUND DOING PARALLAX F YEAH!!!!

So i found unexplored stars and planets. But after I explore them. It just shows the name of the star in system view. It doesnt say my name.

Why is this?

not that its a big deal but it would be cool if it said my name.

Beatz0121: You have to sell the data first. Then you'll see your name but only if you're the first to sell it.

You'll need about 15mil (insurance included) for exploring. I took the loadout Cmdr Nutter proposed in his thread and fared very well with it.
Good luck

Remember that the galactic disk is only 1-2 thousand light years thick. Changing to a different elevation on the z-axis can help.

Adders, Cobra's, and T6's are good substitutes for an Asp, if you are on a budget, have time, and are not going for the long shots. There *is* a race of sorts for the really isolated systems going on. Boring people like me will just have to suffer naming the subdivisions... :(

what are your recommendations on the start zone?

Obviously I am not going to start anywhere near SOL or I Bootis, ETC. everything has probably been explored a thousand times over. I am after Unexplored systems.

I was thinking shooting South through the Solar System instead of left to right. I am sure most people naturally go left or right forward backward

Is starting 1000LY away from SOL a good starting point? or should I start even further?

any advice is appreciated.

PS. I am also going to stay away from the rim. I am assuming that has been all cleared out.

But what do I know? I cant count to 10 let alone 400 billion!

I headed out towards the coal sack. About 500- LY out there are easy pickings. Grab an A frame FSD and a good fuel scoop and have fun.
