I am an absolute nobody...

Has always struck me as funny that when you are talking to an NPC that is telling you that 'You are the only one that can save this land' and you look around and there are 5/6 other players talking to the same NPC, at which point i just want to shout out 'OI YOU LOT BACK OFF , Im the saviour , he just said so' instead its more like 'You want to group up for this one'

In Elite its more like 'Yeah thanks for the delivery , what you still standing there , i have another 324 deliveries coming in and dont have time to stand around talking to you'

Exactly this! Lol! I like to run a narrative through my head similar to this post I made randomly - it was an attempt to RP some of the perceived issues in game.

It's honestly made me consider writing an rp bio for my pilot based on what I've achieved so far and would like to do so in the future, we get tossed in to the middle of nowhere and told to just go for it and see what happens lol

edit: Props for the life of Brian quotes, as you can tell from my avatar I think monty python are for teh winz

I absolutely hate when MMOs have linear stories that imply that each player is the chosen one, but at the same time, missions in ED is even worse than that.

*Space High Five* Amen OP. I too have always been bothered by the "You are the Chosen One" element to many other MMOs. I like the hero treatment sometimes, but when I am one of 20 people clustered around an NPC and I know they're all getting the same speech...kills the moment. I like that in Elite, I know that others may be getting the same rank progression messages. It makes me feel like part of a huge team. I may never actually see any of them, but the feeling is still there.

I like me-centric stories in MMOs, but I also like feeling like a schlub in MMOs too. EVE was just like this to start off with - you're a nobody, the world is humming along without your influence much.

When there's a me-centric story in an MMO, I don't think of other players as "being on the same quest as me". How could I know that if I'm in-game? Therefore it isn't immersion breaking. The immersed me knows nothing of the world outside the game (where there are players doing similar quests to me).

You mean I'm not special! :(

No, but you can have the t-shirt, if it makes you feel better :p

just wear it and everything is..... AWESOME!!

I do agree with the OP tho (have some rep btw) it what makes a huge difference in this game for me and why i dropped KOTOR so fast, at first i was excited about it being story driven and all but then it did settle in. Personally i think its been said the best right here..

rather spot on IMO

the other hand is if you become known in this game by players, be it due to acts of piracy, be the most wanted, the first to do some thing special ,maybe discover thargoids or something like that, or just be a well known charitable person that spreads the in-game wealth around, its all you, you made that happen form 1000 credits and a tiny sidewinder. whatever you make from it, you MADE it happen, not because your the hero of the story, but because your a nobody and yes, i too love it.

have fun out there commanders

+1 for the awesome lego stoofs lol

Between "being a nobody" and "being the chosen one" there are lot of shades of grey to choose from.

/me hides behind a wall and mentions the 3 letter word "EvE"
