Engineers I am done for now.....

This has stopped being enjoyable game that I play to relax. It now feels almost like Elite is somewhere between being fun and being work.

1. Powerplay has been borked. FD doesnt seem to care. We are all on strike this week. Nothing beyond fortification is being done. Ironic that this is what it took to put an end to hostilities between the Federation, Empire, and Alliance.

2. Obtaining Engineer materials is a huge grind that normal people with jobs and lives cant do. It took me 5-6 hours to find 2 units of yttrium (good for 1 grade-4 FSD increase attempt). And after all that there is still the RNG lottery to play with the engineers. I am sorry, but if getting Engineer materials is to remain so time consuming then the results from the Engineers should be guaranteed.

3. AI now goes from cheating to having absolutely ridiculous turn rates. Even an NPC flying a DBE can now dog fight with the best of them. It seems like every NPC now has Military armor too. Turrets have now become mandatory on larger vessels and ships that are not configured for combat will get chewed up by NPC flown combat ships that cost less than the rebuy of your larger ship. It may surprise some people, but sometimes I would like to fly something other than my combat ships.

4. Every AI fight now feels like a match against a human player. Many times I've had to go back for repairs after fighting just a few ships.

I like the new interface, mission board, and missions. However All of these other problems combined means that I am done for now. I'll check back in a few updates. Or maybe when we have the 2.2 Beta. Perhaps by then FD will see the error of their ways.

1 - Agreed.
2 - 100% agree. Too many RNG layers
3 - Not sure about this. Haven't fought any NPCs recently (brave sir robin / avoided playing)
4 - so I have read, but see 3

Enjoy the rest and play Forum-Elite for a bit .. way more fun :)

Thanks. I will still enjoy Forum-Elite.

I would just like to expand on points 3 and 4. Since the start of Engineers I have flown the following ships and loadouts:
Trading Python with gimballs and turrets
Mining Python with gimballs
Trade Anaconda with gimballs and turrets
Combat Anaconda with gimballs and turrets
Combat Corvette with gimballs and turrets
Asp Explorer with 3A shields, gimballs, and setup for material collection and carrying 64 tons of cargo. Used around the bubble / edge of the bubble.
Combat Clipper with gimballs

I must say... Over the past week on the whole I have found this game to feel very unsatisfying....sadly. And something isnt quite right with the NPC ships I'm sure.
Flimley.

Well i had my best expirences in the Eagle and FDL and my worst in the Python and Conda .. so the current FOTM is manoeuvrability it seems to me

The mission system on the other hand has been done very well. I had an NPC FDL that was spawned by a cargo mission follow my ASP all the way from Ross 667 to KP Tauri. A distance of over 150 LY. He didnt appear on every jump unless I lingered in the system and tried to scan planets. Eventually I made it back to spedding orbital at KP tauri where my clipper was parked. Switched to my Clipper and blew him up.
That was fun. That was entertaining and the devs at FD deserve much beer and pizza for implementing this.

Definitely Agree with Point 3! definitely

SO why don;t you?

It's not like you can't tune an engine to outpace any NPC.

Or just buy performance thrusters.

1. I like fly medium and large sized ships. No performance thrusters for me. I am already flying a Clipper, but the moment I jump into my ASP I will be a sitting duck for every FAS and FDL that wants to interdict me.

2. What happens when I get where I am going? I could be at a planet or a completely empty asteroid belt and I will have to deal with hostile NPCs.

3. I cant tune my engines because of reason #2. I spent the last 2 days trying to tune the FSD on my corvette. Thruster tuning will require more time. It is really my 2nd priority after FSD.

Depends on his definition of a combat ship, If I got the same interdictions in a T6/7 that I'm currently getting in my python i'd have some buybacks regardless of how i'd modded them.

my observation too , was working the whole day for 2 FSD mods , which of one turned out bad...using my Python (        fit mining, collectors, wake scanner and a little combat) and every deadly and elite enemy was damagaing me (YEAH I KNOW 4 pips to shield :D ) , so i made nothing today but repair cost....will have to farm credits soon to sustaind having me chasing mats and having a goal to work for...

I'm enjoying flying a mix of missions, trade, combat since the latest upgrades. Ships I fly are in my signature. There has been another post regards the Asp Explorer so it's possible there is an issue with this ship and how it handles NPC's post upgrades.

Depends on the ship, but these are the basics for me
Lightweight armor
Bi-weave shields of the highest class my ship can equip
a rated everything except life support and sensors.
Weapons are a combination of Multicannons and lasers (pulse or beam)
Kws
Chaff launcher
point defense
Shield boooster(s)
HRP - quantity and class depending on ship
Fuel scoop

Yeah thats about the minimum I run with, I don't bother with chaff because Elites are always rammed with fixed and i'd rather have a booster and really the same for PD's but its pretty similar - no HRP's though.

However even If i did that I would struggle heavily in many of the mid-range ships, all the lakons basically :p

"It took me 5-6 hours to find 2 units of yttrium"

I should be so lucky. Took 4 days for one piece.

I sold my hangar and SRV. Not doing that again for the foreseeable future.
I give up on Engineers. If it's not Yttrium, it's some other kind of Unobtainum. No fun.

Got killed a second time trying to pull Soontill relics to Marduk, this time by a Viper with Plasma Accelerators and missiles. It was a good fight with my Cobra this time, got him to 2% hull and no shields, and I am satisfied that the AI is resistible but poses a serious threat. But why even bother unlocking her? I can't actually get the mods.

And by the time you upgrade from the Cobra to an Asp, you'll have NPCs flying FAS and FDL chasing you down. You just cant win.

I believe people are calling this "meta" ... its a meta game. Nothing you do has any direct action or consequence to anything. Its all a bunch of chores that eventually add up to something eventually.
