I am done with ELITE VR for a while

my oculus seems normal, been playing heaps of late as well - HAZ RES, a bit of trading, helping some mates out, flying around
its silky smooth, sometimes the asteroids go a bit weird but it doesnt last long

what is the stutter in super cruise? is it jerking back and forth, running slow?

im on sdk 0.5, 880m sli, win 7x64, SS1.5, low settings <-- not touching a thing until ED works with win10/oculus

Framerate drops visibly for everybody in supercruise after a few minutes if:

You are in inhabited system (solo play even)
You are on a medium or slightly underpowered rig
The higher refresh rate and the more high quality settings, the sooner it shows.

People with decent rigs and 60hz monitors or lower might not notice it at all but it's there.

To test:

Graphics settings to Lowest, Frame Limit Off, Vertical Sync Off, Window mode, 1600x900, Ctrl-F for framecounter. Now you have Elite in a nice Window on your Windows desktop and notthing is limiting the game from drawing a high framerate even on a relatively old GPU:

Now compare being in normal space looking at a station through your cockpit. I get 250 fps.
Be in supercruise in blackness, inhabited, a few minutes, I get down to 100 fps. GPU even clocks down because it doesn't get used enough.

In the rift (more demanding rendering) this goes below 75hz and gets juddery.

I challenge everyone saying their game is not affected to try this out.

I am on a high end system I7 cpu gtx 980 sli config and am getting abysmal fps in supercruise. I was hoping an older NVidia driver might fix the issue temporary. "sigh"

i run low settings on pretty much everything so i will pump it up tonight to try it out

off topic, do you guys even notice higher settings in the oculus?

Not really no. Some anti aliasing helps with the text. The difference between low and ultra is mostly a sudden drop in frame rate. I'm sure there's a lot of little things but I'm too busy gawking at space to really notice.

The effects are mostly visible in the asteroid belts, and dont really show that much in the "regular" game. So no its not really worth it performance wise, I agree.
Solid 75fps is way more imortant for the expeience.

framerate has been *mostly* smooth for me. Just slight juddering in supercruise and very minor occasional ones in station. Running on GTX980 at x2.25 dynamic super resolution (2880 x 1620). most other settings on medium or low

When 1.4 released I was out exploring near the Core. I couldn't figure out what everyone was complaining about with the SC stutter. I wasn't experiencing it at all. Now that I'm back and Bounty Hunting I notice it big time. I've read that rigs running SLI (I have 970s SLI) experience it the most. Many have said disabling SLI fixes the issue. I haven't tried it myself b/c I can deal with the studder for now, but those that can't might want to consider it. I just try to keep my head straight forward in SC. I can't bring myself to shutting off half my GPU power I paid so much for.

The SC problem is not a SLI issue. It affects almost everyone and both VR and non-VR.
Its just a bigger issue and alot easier to detect in VR.
