I am done with ELITE VR for a while

has there been any mention at all about if 0.8 SDK has changed anything from the devs? it would be nice to hear something, even if it is "0.8 is going in the right direction. We are still not supporting it but it is more compatible than 0.7"... hell even if it is really bad news and "0.8 is still unable to work with cobra engine" that is still better than nothing.

Yep, but the stuttering was a minor issue in 1.3 It has become a unplayable mess in SC in inhabited systems since 1.4 so something was changed during the patch. and i've tested on my 3 rigs and all have the same issue since 1.4 Different Os windows 10/8 and 7, different graphics cards etc, even my gaming laptop and only thing common between the 3 pc's was the 1.4 patch.

Im sure that must be a source of deep frustration for them, seeing as they had it sorted and now its again broken, after all the time it took to fix it first time round.

what ever the bug is in SC in 1.4 it is the worst it has even been (well since premium beta started anyway)

at its worst the framerate is way way wore than it ever was, with my GTX 670 even.

I get why people are upset, but also remember that your VR experience is gotten from unreleased products, there's no official release yet, and as such supporting, especially oculus can be very tricky for the developers.

absolutely! until 1.0 comes out, any support we get is a bonus.
That being said, its nice to be kept in the loop about it imo, esp as "back in the day" as it were FD seemed really enthusiastic about VR.

After reading the current DEV update today and noticing our supercruise stutter issue isn't even leading the list of bugs to fix I have decided I am done with VR in Elite for now. I dearly love ELITE in VR but cannot handle the horrible fps drops in supercruise. its making me sick and this is running on a 980SLI system. I truly suspect FDEV is pushing the htc vive and has little interest in supporting oculus at this time if ever. I hope I am wrong. I will return if they fix this issue especially when horizon's come out. Perhaps I should be thanking FDEV as this will now force me to work harder on my own game development projects instead of all the time I had been spending in ED.

Sounds like something wrong with your system?

Supercruise is very smooth on my PC. I have a vintage i5 2500k @ 4.8ghz. 16gb 1866mhz ram @ 2133mhz, GTX 680 with an additional 145mhz on the core and 155mhz on the vram. Windows 8.1. Everything on SSD.

Overclocking does make a big difference.

I still use VR from time to time on my daughters Windows 8.1 machine. I just find it a hassle that I can't use it anymore on my main Windows 10 machine so rarely bother with VR.
funny though that on my daughters machine (non SSD) which is half the spec of my main computer has no stutter issues at all in Ultra with or without VR. But my Windows 10 machine (SSD) stutters all the time in busy systems with supercruise. (Both have AMD cards) I'm think it is something to do with higher spec AMD cards and ED as I can run other games , GTA , FC4 in maxed out settings without any issues.

I think FD ARE enthusiastic about VR, but at the moment they are struggling a bit as there is not yet a full product on the market (I am NOT knocking development kits, but they are just that, and may (or may not) be fully compatible with the final product), and (it seems to me) they are all looking at different ways of doing VR (not unlike what happened when VCRs hit the high street; VHS, Betamax and V2000). Can we realistically expect FD to go with one system and hope it is the one that takes off?

but seriously when you look at how good it is with the Rift I personally would stick my head out and say go with that! That is a sure success especially when I see peoples faces after experiencing ED on the rift! 5 years down the line and maybe something else turns up, they will probably have such a good ability with VR from working with the rift that they could probably change it to whatever the new thing might be. I was sceptical about the rift after I tried the demos that came with it, but as soon as I got it working in ED it blew my mind.

You get no issues at all? Have you tried multiple systems, because on my machine some are fine, others are terrible. performance drops the longer i am in the system as well. (I assume you are playing in VR of course as this is a VR bug!)

i have the same chip as you (only @4.3ghz mind you) but i have a GTX 980. 1.3 worked way better

Its not just a VR bug, nor specific to AMD cards. Plenty of non vr playing NVidia users are having the same issues.

I got another problem: I'm on Oculus 0.5.0.1, it's running good, but after a while the positional tracking isn't working, so I Alt-Tab to Desktop and restart the Oculus-Service... I have to do that after 5-10 minutes... has anyone this issue?

he might not be playing in inhabited systems? it's playable in empty systems, but add a few ships and it becomes a stuttering mess

really... interesting, i have only seen it myself in VR (other than the standard stutter we get on occasion).

Yeah mate, Ive read it on other threads. Plenty of Cmdrs getting this, it's not just us.

I used to get this a lot as it happens. This way a while ago now, before 1.3 dropped. Havent had it since.

Im running v6 runtime now but i was on v5 back then.

Looks like I should give V6 a try! Thank You for the response!

I wonder if this is the same bug I get with SDK 6, but showing slightly different symptons?

1 bug i am getting, which seems quite new (and initially i was worried my rift was faulty and then i saw it happening on a random rift youtube stream) sometimes i will be playing, and everything zooms right out, almost like someone attached a bungie rope to me and dragged me backwards as the ship carries on forwards..... To fix I either turn away from my screen forcing the camera to lose tracking and then resync, or turn my rift off and on again.

anyone else getting this/>

I was getting this before also sometimes, no idea on a fix.

Yeah I get this, like a rubber banding backwards? It comes and goes every now and then. A new addition to the old school left panel camera tracking issue!

This isnt the same problem as the one BoggiBlanko mentions. That problem is when you lose tracking like when you look directly behind you normally. The only way to get it back is to restart the service.

Wow you are the first that I know of that says SC is smooth. I'm running a GTX970 strix OC with vintage i5 10gb win7 0.6.0.1 (or 0.5.0.1) and definitely get judder (when I move my head) in SC most of the time(but not always). Hmmm wonder if maybe win8 is better then? Also ,are you running the game in Steam?
