I am forced to play VR only now

I have an Oculus Rift and when I launch Elite Dangerous it forces me to play on the Oculus only. I want to play on my monitors and I don't see a way to do it. I originally bought the game from frontier to play on my monitors then I bought the Oculus Rift later and paired it. now the Oculus is my only option of playing. How can I revert back to my monitor? I want the option to do either monitor or Oculus

And other options:
- right-click on ED thumbnail in the Oculus app and select 'Play in desktop mode' or something like that
- stop the Oculus VR Runtime Service (Windows background service) before playing, this will prevent the Oculus app from starting

You can also change the launcher shortcut and add the target suffix " -novr ".

That will force it to not load any vr routines.

Kaii's profiler is a more elegant solution since you would most likely also like different graphics settings for 2d than VR.

Very interesting!

One problem I have is that when I'm playing non-VR Elite I have the Oculus runtime Windows service stopped (which prevents Oculus Home from starting up). That's fine except that what then I launch the game (with my non-VR profile) SteamVR then pops up instead and promptly steals the focus from the ED window (I then have to close it again and Alt-Tab back to ED).

I'm gonna try this shortcut switch tomorrow in the hope that it will prevent SteamVR from getting all excited.

I'm not certain if it won't start the runtime, but if the launcher starts with vr suppressed the 3d option will be unavailable.

There might also be an option on the launcher itself to suppress vr modes.

I'm forced to play ED in VR as well, but only by the fact that ED doesn't look as awesome on 2D screen... I use drkaii's profiler and that's a great solution for your problem.

You can also just kill the Oculus service [and service launcher] from your task manager, before launching, if it's being annoying

Brilliant, it worked! No more annoying SteamVR popup. Thanks for the tip.
