Since I moved to Shrewsbury, I haven't found a good Chinese takeaway.

There's like 50 of them, but none of them sell my old favourite, Crispy Chili Chicken. (Or beef, or prawns).

And none of the ones I've tried can make the same meal twice. Lol

I'm a bit picky with food, but I'll give a take away precisely 2 tries. If it messes up either one, I'll never go back.

So I don't actually have a favourite Chinese to go to yet.

You wouldn't think a Chinese takeaway was better in Cornwall...
But I've learned a lot of things were better in Cornwall.
Including the internet.
And the people.. or lack of.

Lol

I want Chinese now.

Un1k0rn, you need to stop posting food threads immediately. :p

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

That made me chuckle. Thanks man, needed that. With the whole uncertainty over Intel, and my favourite Chinese getting new management... Been a pretty rubbish day.

Wait a sec, are you are posting on here that a new fast food joint is under new management and it has ruined your life? First world problems of those born after 1984.. Man get down your local Jiu Jitsu school and get grounded (lol pun)

I said I was rather upset. How does that equate to ruined life?

Reading through the entire thread gave me that impression. Better to avoid MSG which is replete in CN takeaways.

And what's with the constant warnings about health? You complain about millennials... Well I'm going to complain about old fogeys who tell me that everything is going to kill me.

I don't care. If I wanted warnings, I'd have started a thread about the health ramifications.

MSG has a widespread reputation for eliciting a variety of symptoms, ranging from headache to dry mouth to flushing. Since the first report of the so-called Chinese restaurant syndrome 40 years ago, clinical trials have failed to identify a consistent relationship between the consumption of MSG and the constellation of symptoms that comprise the syndrome. Furthermore, MSG has been described as a trigger for asthma and migraine headache exacerbations, but there are no consistent data to support this relationship. Although there have been reports of an MSG-sensitive subset of the population, this has not been demonstrated in placebo-controlled trials.

Now just think, if you couldn't get your acai?
I've seen people lose their composure entirely over that stuff.

You constantly tell us how you struggle with life. I am offering you information on how to take life by the balls. Plant based diet and train Jiu Jitsu. You will over night feel great and meet people and forge life long friends. Or you could just stay home and play video games.

You're welcome to go revive one of those threads, where life improvement is the topic.

It isn't the topic of this thread.

But for the sake of what you're telling me. I know my life isn't perfect. I know a lot of what I do is "bad". But right now, things like the raw tastiness of a takeaway are actually what's keeping me going. I've currently got a lot of things going on.

I appreciate the concern, but I would kindly request to reserve the help for when I explicitly ask it.

I have to take a lot of criticism on a daily basis from a very ill sister who desperately needs psychological help. Right now she spends 75% of the day verbally abusing anything that moves. It's created a very stressful environment for me, and right now I need to prioritise my ability to stay calm. For better or worse, enjoyable food keeps me calm. And now we have all these bloody CPU flaws to worry about, I'm even more stressed.

I wonder if the very rich and powerful fast food industry are responsible for such findings. Aspartame is another that was deemed unsafe by the FDA then suddenly allowed in the early 80's.

I'm certain fear mongering isn't helpful.
No wondering required.
Your conspiracy theories are funny.

I suppose you think making stuff up is helpful, somehow?

Great now with all this talk I want chili squid from Fungsun's Kitchen in Chalk Farm. I don't know what I'd do if they changed ownership and made it a totally different way. But my all time greatest Chinese place did the same thing and changed management. They made the best mixed meat chow mien, were always so happy to see us after the pubs, knew what each of us wanted to order every time, then boom they were gone and the service and meals were never the same again...

Something similar happened to my favorite chinese buffett in town. I only went there like once every few months, but it was the best cooking and they had an odd shrimp scampi italian style tray which was delicious. I tried to go there two weeks ago and it turned out it had been literally demolished among that whole section of the old mall supposedly for future renovation. No sign of what happened to the establishment or whether it was relocated.

I live in wonderful Cardiff now, and am slowly learning good places for takeaway.

But where I was before, there was an excellent Chinese buffet that served good food at a brilliant price, albeit with incredibly grouchy service. Perfect for after the football. One day, without any warning, it was closed. That was a pain, as anything comparable was ten miles away and more expensive.

Mind you, buffets are dangerous things...

The best curry I've ever had was when I was walking home at 1am, and passed an Indian restaurant. I peeked in the door asking if they were still open, they weren't. The manager ushered me in and told me to sit down. They had cooked their own evening meal I had come along just as they had finished eating and I could help myself to as much as was left for £5 (this was 20 years ago). I did and it was THE best curry I've ever had.

Have you tried to know the reason ?

As soon as it's actually open, I'll be visiting so I can find out what happened. But right now there's just renovation work going on. I doubt the builders know. :p
