I am leaving tomorrow - my power that is, here's why.

It also makes it a mess when it comes to identifying who REALLY runs a system.

It is also why PP feels like a completely separate game sicne they dont really impact the "real" world except with certain trade/bounty bonuses.

And how can an Imperial faction influence trade laws in Federation owned space?
Ok, we can imagine that it's like enforced trade agreements but that would also require that the FEDERATION allows an Imperial interest group to influence their laws and state what Federation citizens in a system are allowed or not allowed to do.

If anything PP factions should really only be able to influence already major faction owned systems.

So if you want Imperial PP to influence a FED system you would have to overthrow that system OUTSIDE of PP before you can even take it over for your PP faction.

Want to remove a PP faction from a system - Overthrow the legal ruler first, creating a power vacuum of random IMP/FED/ALL ruler depending on who you are backing and THEN try to use normal PP mechanics.

PP should mainly be about intra-faction politics and not possible on non-faction owned systems.

Yea, and can you imagine the good ol' U.S of A realizing that one of their southern states have turned semi-communist due to outside influence?

EDIT:

PP would also benefit more if it went with a regular mission bulletin board and removed merits, merit decay and the whole shebang.

Why, because then we could gain missionss on our reputation and actually DO missions that undermine actual rulers in enemy owned systems.

It could also go so far as to create actual major faction interference if the Federation dont WANT the Empire to butt in on their system - turning a political game into a minor war that gets the Emperor involved into an actual diplomatic war crisis.

i agree with you on this.
Instead of PP, and it being almost a separate game, why not just use the existing major powers and larger independents, and include it in the existing game
So the you have Empire, federation, alliance and Li yong & Archon and the other independents, give a face to the major powers leaders, (emperor, president ect), and expand the regular missions to include the major powers , rather than have merits and decay, and no paper delivery round either.
Also i agree with Drew Wagner on his blog, why did Frontier miss the chance to use existing lore & books for the characters, instead of new ones no one has any connection to.

Well just an update to my OP, i have indeed now left my power, no messages of thanks for your time, no, sorry your leaving, no nothing, zilch, nada.
Just as always PP is so impersonal. I am now flying around in my anaconda, the only difference i see is no Hostile on my dashboard hud. And no one keeps interdicting me who i can't shoot.
Just been working this out too.
I could collect 20 merits every 30 mins, and take it to a station close by, and come back for more every 30 minutes. I would need to do 500 runs to get 10,000 merits to earn 50m.
But my present route is 2 stations, 27ly apart, and i am making 1.5m a run, if i do that 500 times, i end up with 75m. And i do not have to wait for the 30mins either. So probably earn much more.
So i don't need PP at all.

I have parked my Python. Bought and upgraded a DBE. Stocked with Beer and pizza. I shall be off in the void. My power will soon be a distant memory.

So i don't need PP at all.

No-one does.
Im only in it for the modules.
And thats the problem.

The carrot is the only thing worth the grind when the only attachment to following a faction is purely imagination and roleplay.

Its a BORING time and money sink.

Also i agree with Drew Wagner on his blog, why did Frontier miss the chance to use existing lore & books for the characters, instead of new ones no one has any connection to.

Because they can do what they want with those characters without having to talk this through with someone. And because, once one power vanishes, it's leading face can vanish as well.

Imagine one of the celebreties would be there instead of ALD, and lets further assume, the folks pledged there don't get the course altered, would it be fun to see a character you love from those books vanish ? You need to see the current PP as some sort of (beta-) test. It can't be the final shape, and by not using known characters now, they can do so later (if they so choose).

Repped because nothing can be static.
I'm all for the incorporation of lore, given it's time, and how things progress.
I like stories with history and that make sense.
I believe Star Trek called this "continuity".
That kinda thing floats my boat.
Legend characters, even if current surroundings, would be cool if they were incorporated into the story correctly.
Some live, some die...but they are known and add to the story.
