I am sad :(

19 months work lost ;(
About 4000 scanned systems that would have had my tag on - including all the planets as I scanned everything. Lost.

I am literally shaking with self rage.

That's truly awful, feeling for you! 19 months though - have you considered raising a ticket?

I know it's just death by neutron star and that not everyone would want to but that's a huge amount of game time to lose and FD may well have some sympathy.

FSD malfunctioned in a NS jet? Or did you hit the exclusion zone?

You have to keep the FSD repaired in between NS boosts. The chance of FSD malfunction increases with the damage caused by boosting.
NS boosts only save you 4 jumps or 4 minutes. Not worth the risk IMO.

Yeh that is really tragic... take a break from the game for a few days... I crashed into planet while flying above its surface and looking at the galmap. Only 2 weeks data, but I will never be that careless again. If I could offer another piece of advice - Don't try to go back and 're'scan the systems you had... it will only make you sadder.

That being said, most people don't understand how dangerous exploration actually is. Neutron Boost malfunctions, crashing into planets, running out of fuel, the dreaded Neutron Star trap (jumping into distant system with no boost out).... we lost about 10% of the Shepard Mission Cmdrs to death one way or another.

My sincere condolences Commander, that truly sucks!
Get right back on that horse though - the galaxy waits for no one :)

This brings up a good point about exploration, like mentioned above. It really is Dangerous! So many things can go wrong, and unlike the other careers, everything you do is at risk. One little slip, one bad jump or just some unluckiness and hard work people have put month into can be gone like that. You have to have balls to want to go out and make credits exploring, or just exploring in general. There comes a point where you break way from the point of no return and all you can do is keep going forward, but each jump is a reminder that you need to find a way back in one piece and the further out you get, sometimes the more impossible it seems. The reward though is amazing, such beautiful sights and vistas. I'm sorry for your loss OP. I've started my journey, hoping it's a very long one as well, and I've already almost screwed myself, thank you to Hell Port in Seagull Nebula for saving me but godspeed on your next journey. Don't stay too long, the black awaits.

Theres no risk when its done right, easily worth it. I used neutron stars when i came back from Beagle Point and traveled over 30kly using nothing but neutron boosts.

Oh, that sucks! I hope you aren't too mad at yourself, everyone makes mistakes. Of course, out in the Big Black one little mistake can be deadly!

Yeah...this happened to me last night. Jumping in right through the middle of that one on the right, and ending up in between the two with fuel scoops going off...holy crap that made my heart skip a beat! Pull up, pull up! Good thing I have a cool running build, as my temps hit 80 before I was able to get far enough away for them temps to start falling, and damned lucky I didn't hit an exclusion zone...

Really feeling for you ...

That's such a shame.

Surely this is pilot error. I wouldnt want to go crying to FD for my own error :(
Of course it is your call, but you are not playing iron man mode and it won't cost you anything, to try your luck with a very realistic and often sympathetic support team we have here. Go for it, you have already accepted the loss; anything else. is a bonus.

Sad news anyway.

Sorry to read about your big loss.

I know the feeling.
For my first long range exploration run, I decided to go to Colonia with a Python loaded with books for a CG. Lot of jumps, lot of days.
I crashed on a planet 17 kly from Sol, only 5kly from Jaques. I banked too hard around a mountain and was surprized that my ship was not responsive and was gaining speed very fast.
This planet was so beautiful, but deadly... I didn't see it was a high-G world. I lost all.
Lesson learned.

That is terrible indeed. [sad]
I had some close calls on my journey, and some bad nightmares about crashing.
Keep your head up and don't give up.
The best medicine might just be to get right back out there.
