I am sick and tired of games/dlc not being ready on release

I'm just not going to ever spend any more money for something that isn't released, and actually is what was promised. I wanted FDEV to be the exception to the rule, but they aren't, and it's been a frustrating couple of days with Odyssey. I appreciate the work the developers did, but am very angry with the upper management that said it was okay to release the dlc in this state. Why does it seem like this is the norm now??

I've had multiple issues, that I'm sure many of you are experiencing as well:
  1. Performance. It's terrible. I have a R 7 3700x and a 2060 Super, and while it is to be expected that there would be a performance drop, it shouldn't be this bad. I have to stay out of stations, because it becomes a slideshow.
  2. The time I did spend in the stations, almost every mission I accepted would either bug out or disappear entirely.
  3. Some of the new planet tech is amazing, and some of it is atrocious. There are some planets that, when I land on them, the terrain is so terrible looking that I just take off to find another planet that doesn't look bugged out.
  4. There are terrain features that were in the alpha that are missing in the full release, and it makes no sense to me why it isn't there.
  5. The new UI is confusing and is a step backwards from what was there before. I had problems with the original, but this is way worse.
  6. And the least of all my problems; why is there a strange contrast/black level filter over everything? Where is the skymap?? Why is almost everything either overexposed or underexposed?
I can't get my money back. The very least you guys can do, is use my money to help fix this mess of a dlc, and I'm never going to give you or any other developer money until a decent experience can be had.

Yet you still felt the need to start a whole new thread on the subject. Good for you!
Yes, on the slight chance that it will make a difference. It's been a frustrating roller coaster ride of emotions and expectations that I'm attempting to keep in check.

I have been playing ED since 2015.
This happens every time a new update/dlc is released.
I did not purchase Odyssey.
My goodwill towards FDev ran out with the release of Fleet Carriers.

Then Dont Play .... Haters are always going to Hate and Cry ... Hate to see your posts in Star Citizen , lol we are still in a Bata phase until after console release , and even then we will be getting updates. Guess you havent been keep up on anything but what the game has done for you.

I have 60 fps in worst case scenario:
on foot in large orbital stations concourse.

GTX 2070s with most settings on ultra / shadows on high, 2560x1080p resolution, no SS, only SMAA.

My tip: start at HIGH or MEDIUM setting in a demanding location
.
Turn settings higher one by one, run around the station, look in different directions.
Repeat upping settings until you overdo and get major performance drop.

Now is the tricky part:
game can BREAK and get stuck in lower fps even if you change settings back to previous, lower state until it is restarted!
It's very confusing bug that tricked me into believing that OD performance is really that bad, because lowering setting wasn't really helping so I was joining the "OD runs on low setting at 30-40 fps in some locations" club.

I had to make several restarts to find my "golden mean" in setting where GPU usage is ocassionaly maxed at 55-60 fps but there are no major long lasting fps drops that seem to break game engine until it is restarted.

After this I enjoy ALMOST constant 60 fps with almost no compromise in image quality with the exception of supersampling that seems to be too demanding to my hardware setup ATM.

What is your problem, exactly? Why do you think I shouldn't complain if a developer releases content that's clearly unfinished? Do you prefer unfinished crap?

While that is a detailed solution to one of the problems, it's quite ridiculous that we have to do that. But, I am glad you posted this, in case someone else wanted to try that. Thank you.

This is unavoidable, to an extent. People don't realise just how much more complicated games are today compared to earlier days, and it's even worse when you build upon an existing game, putting a new game on top of another; with so many systems and standards having to mesh together. And a lot of issues only surface when a sufficiently big pool of people play at the same time.

And in my opinion, the launch has been pretty good so far. It could have been a lot worse (Cyberpunk).

I'm sorry, but that's a load of crap. I'm fully aware of how complicated video games are nowadays, and developers have just continued the trend of releasing it in a 'playable' state so they can just fix it later.

It's people like you who make me go insane

You're entitled to your opinion. I disagree.

Besides, Odyssey is running butter smooth for me at Ultra settings. No issues whatsoever.

This isnt a release-ready DLC, this is a beta, at best, DLC. The list of issues is a mile long, and most players experience them, yet fans/brand protectors roll around these forums saying nonsense about iT wOrKs PeRfEcTlY foR mEE on uLtRA!?

30 year net/sysadmin here. Have worked for numerous developers, and shipped products. Pray tell why my 3080, 7800x, 32GB freshly built win10 system sees 35-90 FPS in Odyssey, crashes to desktop about once per hour, and erases all my missions - without record of them - also about once per hour? Maybe its my config? The list of issues I could share here would stretch 2 pages, and I have over 5000 hours in ED/horizons.

M-m-mmaybe I just d-ddont know how to pway this super 'dangerous' game?

How dare you be upset with a product corporations have feelings too what're you a karen works fine on my machine.
I hope you get your refund for Odyssey. It helps if you take up the issue with Steam or whatever even bigger, meaner corporation you bought it through. If I were you, I might put that money towards moving to a secluded island somewhere before this whole economy collapses under the stupidity of its basis.
