I cannot believe I even have to ask this. Let us talk about 3.0.4

What bugs will be fixed? It has been announced that this patch will be released some time next week.

I ask about the potential bug fixes because I want to make sure some of the more critical bugs are resolved. Everyone, feel free to list the bugs currently in the game and I will maintain them in this thread.

Sandro, can you describe the development cycle to me? Pretend I am a novice.
What engineering techniques are being employed? What is your change control methodology? How do you track and resolve bugs? What coding standards are being followed and how are they enforced? What is the QA process, which includes alpha/beta testing? And how do you ensure that development follows the requirements?

These next few questions might be a bit intrusive. What are the teams and how are they being managed? How do they report to you? How are milestones determined and kept? What are your rewards for productivity?

I finish with a statement.

I want you guys to know that I love Elite: Dangerous, all the way back from 1984. And I truly appreciate all the work you guys have put into the game throughout the years. No other space sim comes close to what Elite does. And I doubt any others ever will.

But there is something seriously wrong. Features are not being implemented. Serious, obvious bugs are going out in release. And as a result the player base has become angry.

This needs to be fixed. We want to keep the baby and instead throw out the bath water. If a reorganization is needed, reorganize. Let's do the best we can to make this game the most we can. We are all stake holders, after all, and we all want to make Elite epic.

Thanks for your consideration.

Bugs
-----
  • Docking pad granted is already occupied - This one bugs the hell out of me.
  • Wing-man NAV lock drops out too far from the locked wing-man.
  • Random crashes when accessing the galaxy map.
  • Miscellaneous texture issues; not enough detail when looking closely at textures.
  • Random CTD's when approaching a surface port
  • Flight assist not remembering it's state.
  • Boost sound cut off on some ships.
  • (FIXED) Missing rank missions
  • Shadows that have plagued PS4 (standard, not Pro) since 2.4 dropped.
  • Planetary Surface Clipping and Floating Stones - Already reported it. It seems to just be getting worse.
  • Skimmers with no faction and no status
  • Pirate massacre missions not spawning mission pirates
  • NPCs ignore Power Plant damage.
  • Market screen in VR is not curved.
  • When you exit the roll panel on the crew tab then re-enter the roll panel, it displays the all panel info while still showing the crew tab.

So far I have seen the following

Random CTD's when approaching a surface port (In 3 years I have had about 2 CTDS, last few days I have had 5)

Flight assist not remembering it's state.

Boost sound cut off on some ships.

They probably hired some young - or even not so young - students who are missing programming experience. Students in general seem to be great in theory but bad in doing.

Programming is a bit like playing chess: Even if you know all rules, you won't automatically win the game (or produce a nice, quick and bug free program).

Unfortunately that's what students think: "I know all about it. I own certificates about it. That means I am capable of doing it.". That's the big fallacy.

I have rarely read such crap here in the forum...

Playing since release day back in December 2014. Spend over 30 weeks on Elite Dangerous already. The core game at least was almost bug free. It was a surprise to see how bad it went on in terms of programming quality after. :O

Has it? Of course some of the player base is angry. Equally there are plenty of people who want the bugs to be fixed yet are being relatively calm and philosophical about the matter. Also, I think you have fallen into the fallacy that these forums are representative of the wider player base. Maybe they are all angry, but we actually don't know. Vocal minority shouting the loudest and all that.

Sorry OP, but despite the sugar coating this just comes across as another hyperbolic "the game is in real trouble" thread while strongly implying that the devs are incompetent and don't know what they are doing. Clearly, they should just put you in charge ;)

You can't have been paying attention.

I was gonna say something smart like that too but ye beat me to the post...

I actually dont have that many issues with the game atm...some the missions are a royal pita but apart from the missions, I actually dont have a helluva lot to complain about which is most unfair really...on this forum Im feeling like the odd one out and Im just miserable fer the sake of being miserable.

If they could perhaps tweak the dial a bit on certain USS, Id be as happy as a pig rolling around the brown stuff...and reactivate the navy rank missions...and really thats about the peak of my my issues with the game atm. Im still stinging somewhat over the credit nerfs, but Ill survive no doubt...and I still blame the players so FD couldnt fix that aspect even if they wanted to

Excellent, another Salty Troll to add to my ignore list.

Yep, there's been a huge patch some stuff's amazing some stuffs broken FDEV are bouncing hotfixes out to get it all up to speed. Either accept there will be bugs in any new release, or take a break for a few weeks if the bugs bother you.

The "games doomed gah" stuff is even worse than usual.

That's an awful lot of a thesis built on mere assumption.
I suggest reconsidering.

More like a bunch of incredibly experienced people dealing with an insanely complicated game. Not sure how long you have been gaming for, always amazes me how well this game runs and that serious game breaking bugs are practically non existent.

Let's just overlook the falling skimmers of death.

This is not helpful and contributes nothing to the thread.

Game seems fine to me. I didn't even notice the FA-Off thing and still haven't.

No CTD's, I don't care about the comm's pannel bug - sure it's annoying but hey-ho!

As long as my gear goes up and down and my lasers fire I am fine.

Initially I got very salty about the missing rank missions, but thats water under the bridge now...I got a mildly severe credit shortage to try and mitigate while waiting fer the hotfix.

Im actually surprised more didnt break considering the size of the update and all the fundamental changes it made...but however. Im still mightily annoyed with certain players who I blame fer the credit nerfs with their constant whining and rivers of tears about how it was a proper game when they were starting out...Im so sick of reading things like that, that I just disconnect from the forums entirely as a result ^
