I can't get enough of smuggling.

So much so that I'm now planning on doing a full refit of the Celestial Unicorn.

Swapping the military for either reinforced or lightweight, mounting a cabin for criminal leaders, equipping a fuel scoop so I can get drugs further...

Anyone got any suggestions? Ship is a Cobra Mk III.

Smuggling? Yeah, make sure your ship can fly in a relatively straight line. About the only prerequisite to effective modern smuggling.

My personal recommendation is to ditch the cobra and pick up an iClipper, but I can see where that conversation goes with you ;)

Just the motto of Stevenson's Whirlwind Adventures*

"If you're not willing to wreck your ship, you're not really in a hurry!"

Fly fast, Commander, and ignore all the smoke and sparks. It's perfectly normal.

I used an Eagle a lot with about 8 tonnes of cargo and built for speed.

Went station hopping and picked up any mission going in the same direction, having 2-3 smuggling missions on average in the cargo and made about 0.5 to 1 million per mission.

After a few hours and looking at the map I had no idea where I was most of the time.

Oh yeah. Cobra is non-negotiable. I'm not saying the iClipper isn't a good choice. Actually I concede that it's an objectively better ship on all fronts except landing pad size.

But yeah. I'm playing with my Coriolis build, and lightweight alloys seem the way to go. The speed gain over my current military is huge, relatively speaking.

I'm also going to make my weapons lightweight, just to squeeze that extra range and speed out. Probably never going to use them, indeed I'm still only Mostly Harmless, but I feel naked without them.

Honestly in the current state of smuggling you almost want to make your ship heavier on purpose so there's actually any level of challenge.

In that vein, I rescind my earlier comment. Best ship for smuggling: ladies and gentlemen, the T9. Shieldless.

Smuggling doesn't really turn a profit unless you do it in fairly large ship like a conda. It's really far too easy, just go out about 12 km from front entrance, line it up, boost and put on silent running. As long as you have a few heat sinks, very little can go wrong.

Two heatsinks modules is all you need on any ship to be a good smuggler.

For maximum excitement take Wanted passengers to Ground / Planetary settlements.

Oh I'm definitely carrying a cabin. Wanted passengers are great.

Which is why I try to carry a risky passenger. Brings a bit of flair.

Wanted passengers are great.

They were so much better when the Station used to attack you if you got scanned. Now just the patrolling ships attack.

The high level of whining got that changed, forever removing the actual risk of consequences from the game once again.

Depend what you mean by profit.

- 500K to 1 million per mission and stacking 2-4 missions on an Eagle makes the Eagle VERY profitable with 1 jump total for each mission.

if it on the other hand is to breach some X millions per hour staple number, then no.

Yeah. I missed out there. I was very late to trying passengers.

+1

There's an extra 10% payout in Antal systems and pretty much everthing is illegal that's slightly questionable. Watch out fines and bounties are x 1.5 too.

If you like a bit more of an edge to your smuggling head there.

Nice, thanks for that. That's two political regions which should make this pastime a bit more interesting.

Speed is life... (from another Cobra MKIII enthusiast.)
Ditch the guns they just added weight.
Shields are for wimps and you can reduce your power needs without them.
Always pay off your bounties because you need to look clean to ship dirty.
Learn how to handle interdictions in ways that make sense.
(Ie.. always set the furthest system you can high wake too because typically combat ships have shorter jump ranges.)
if on PC use VoiceAttack to quickly set your unneeded ships modules off to extend Silent Running time.

I keep being puzzled why people ever care about this silent running crap.

I carry illegals in my Python all the time and don't even bother anymore - they never manage to finish scanning me as I dock.

Only thing which *maybe* helps me I always align to station entrance before exiting supercruise.

For smuggling, you need a certain mindset, then building ships for smuggling will come easy.

Smugglers always run, and hide in the shadows. It's not illegal if no one knows it exists ;).

If you want to have the glamarous limelight, and fight your way to that illicit victory, become a pirate.

So with this new knowledge, go forth and become a better smuggler, or realize you should of been a pirate all along....
