Hi all,

My first post is probably going to annoy some people who will say "search the FAQ's" but I have tried.

I have an Xbox One and I have always loved Elite (i'm old enough to remember it on the spectrum, then I had Fronter (Elite 2) on my PC years later.

My question is simple. I am obviously connected to the intrnet (Xbox Live) with my Xbox, but I do not pay for Xbox Gold because I don't usually play online games.

Can I play this game with basic Xbox Live, or do I have to pay and subscribe to Xbox Gold for £35 a year (which kinda makes the game dearer than I wanted it to be).

Salty is correct, you will be able to play with a silver account, but only in Solo. The game is fun, even in Solo, hope you buy it. I don't think buying on Xbox Live is locked behind the Gold Subscription paywall, but I have always had gold, so I couldn't answer this.

Besides you can indeed play it if you are Silver, there are third party webshops that offer 12, 13, and sometimes 14 month xboxlive cards for cheap.

I have always had gold as well, but you could download games on the 360 without a gold account. Unless MS changed something you should be ok. If not, I am sure you could get a 1 day trial somewhere for free.


- If you need a gold membership to download the game send me a PM. I am pretty sure I have a 24/48 hour codes lying around somewhere you can have.

You can play "Solo" mode if you don't have Xbox Live Gold. You'll interact with the same galaxy the rest of us do; you just won't ever see us.


IMHO opinion, the game is worth the XBL Gold subscription for online on its own. The fact you get other benefits for other games makes it a bit better.

Same with me. I still have the trial card they give you when you buy an Xbox One. My Gold will be running out here in a few days but I'll just get a year long subscription.

I can confirm that you can buy games on Xbox store with silver membership. I've only recently upgraded to gold about 4 months ago, prior to that I had silver and still purchased games through the store.

I suggest the the purchase my friend, gold or no you won't regret it as it can be played in solo mode.

And at the risk of sounding like Louis Walsh, 1000% yes, buy it now. Nice update coming on Tuesday with some new ships too.

As others have said, you don't need to have gold to play it (solo mode), but 12mth xbox live subs can often be bought from places like cdkeys for about 20quid. Topped up myself recently.

One other recommendation- never fly a ship where you can't afford the rebuy.
Other than that, welcome to the galaxy and fly safe out there Commander. o7

Hi there.

Absolutely buy this game, it's worth every penny and a whole lot more! :D

Its a great game with a great community too, and the developers have got big plans for the future!

Also buy a shovel. Use said shovel to dig a large, deep, social life shaped hole. Then throw aforementioned social life into the hole as you probably won't be needing it for quite some time! :D (yes, I'm addicted).

So, welcome in advance to ED, if you need any help getting started then there's always plenty of Cmdr's on here that are more than willing to point folk in the right direction :)

For the record OP, Solo mode contains all the same features as the full online game, barring of course having other people to interact with. You won't be missing out on any content. Just buy it.

Oh by the way, I don't think anybody in the Xbox section has ever said 'Read the FAQ'. We're not like that at all

(although some of us will shoot you in the face if you're carrying Imperial slaves)

OP, buy it, and gold.

Even if you don't play multiplayer games.... XBL Gold for $60 gets you like $700 in free games a year AND better discounts on sales. I'm paid up the next 2yrs because I'm always finding 12 month subs for $35 each.

Hey, Imperial Slavers only assist in allowing citizens to clean up their credit... ;-)

Buy the game. Even in Solo, it's fun. I bounce between Solo and Full based on my mood for activity.

Thankyou for all your advice guys, I will get it. I take it I cant buy a hard copy? Even so, I still haven't used my free months Gold trial from when I bought my One, so I will use that for now.

PS... Ive been addicted to X3 Terran Cpnflict on my PC for years anyway, so have no social life.
