General / Off-Topic I don't like U2

I was never keen, though never hostile, to Floyd. I loved the song Time, and a few from the Wish You Were Here album. I liked some of Roger Waters solo stuff too. But most of that is for the sake of the memories they bring back.

Just curious, what do people think of Frank Zappa? I remember listening to that during my late teens and wondering why the hell my little circle of frenemies used to worship everything he did.

I like both. Zappa is weird, but you can get into his stuff if you throw out your expectations about what pop music is. Muffin Man is legendary piece of guitar work.

-I hate jazz for the same reason I hate yoga: it's magnetic to new-age granola, elitist art-student know-it-alls who take anthropology and work at the coffee shop.

-I'm not a fan of U2 because I find them sappy and unentertaining or preachy.

-Led Zeppelin always sound like they're begging for some from the missus (Please-Please-Pleeeeeeeeeease...)

-Jim Morrison sounds like he's going down a list of words that rhyme (fire mire liar dire/touch me babe, promise that you made, I am not afraid [rolleyes] )

-Lenny Kravitz is way too popular for his crappy lyrics too. Fly sky high dragonfly. These guys get paid for this?

-Oasis and Moist were just trying to cash in on the same sound as the Beatles and doing it poorly.

-Def Leppard and Bon Jovi are the chick flicks of rock. Richard Gere is the movie version of Rod Stewart.

-Bob Dylan sounds like he has wet-brain (brain damage from paralytic alcohol abuse) and his voice irritates me to no end. Sounds like one of my dad's friends growing up who was always drunk, thought he was so witty and would just do and say the awkward, oblivious things that drunkards do.

-Tom Petty sounds like a cautionary tale for the permanent damage weed might do to your voice and cadence of speech. Almost nasal and extending his "ooooo"s. Not that I'd believe it but it'd make for some good propoganda: "Smoke weed and you'll sound like Tom Petty before you're 40!"

Some of the bands I like have very similar styles without the irritating little bits I can't overlook:
Canned Heat
Doobie Bros.
Willie Dixon
Howlin' Wolf
JJ Cale
Supertramp

Joe Satriani played too much guitar and went bald like Saitama but he's still Oroku Saki in my books.

There may be no accounting for taste but experts can tell how far something is from what it should be, the rest of us can speculate.

I HATE, really really HATE, despise and wish cess upon, Billy ' Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan is one of the most overrated hacks in the business who makes music which actually sucks the life out of people who hear it. He has also committed audiocide.

Depeche Mode are awesome. One of their signature hits (never let me down) is instantly recognizable. Big, bold, strong, energetic, and powerful.

Smashing Pumpkins went and turned it into a 3AM number that was as bland as Corgans droning voice, taking what was great about the song and destroying it.

EDIT: I really love this thread. Way too many threads are about music people like, an opportunity to take a massive dump on some bands is doing me the world of good.
