I don't understand how the codex works....

As a tool for space tourists (and I don't use that term disparagingly, I'm one) and as a catalogue of what sort of things are out there it works pretty well - i.e. it's great of you want to go and see an example of a thing of type X. As a personal record of what you've seen or as some kind of "hall of fame" ... not so much.

Codex is broke, I noted down all the reported Geos, & Bio thargoids and guardian items out there. it basically has not changed in a week two new entries that was it. I understand confirmed is what we get if we find it, but the WHOLE idea for reported was other players finds. So EITHER there are the following scenarios are happening:

A, No body is exploring at all which I find hard to believe (maybe that 3% thing again)
B, Thousands of commanders are looking the galaxy with the ALL new exploration system and finding bags of reported stuff, and it's not showing in the codex so its BROKEN

Frontier i'm convinced you could not fix a broken match stick IMHO.

With loads of bug pages happening daily since both beta and release of Q4 update, I'm surprised you guys still have a job.

Personally I'm so sick of reporting stuff that gets ignored it is just a waste of time now.
You know ‘Reported’ is only the first instance of a thing being discovered in a region, right?

I see it as the "Figurine Panini" sticker-book of collecting things in sectors ;) :)

Mildly entertaining, but ultimately of little use for recording all your personal discoveries, just the first one of whatever it is.

I scanned a new thing (biological, using composition scanner) not in the CODEX and nothing is happening. How does one get a NEW discovery reported? Do I need to go to station with Stellar Cartography?

I'm concerned, based on what I'm seeing, that you cannot have something show up in your own Codex as Confirmed by you, if it is not Reported by another commander first. I.e. you can not have a "Confirmed" item where the Reported number is zero.

In your example, your find should show up as Confirmed for you, but with no Reported number. It would only show as Reported for other commanders. My worry is it's (correctly) showing up as Reported by you on other commanders' Codex, but you won't see it anywhere in your Codex because there's nothing for you to "confirm".

I hope I'm wrong.

Apologies for the delayed response, only saw your post today. I guess you probably know by now that it’s via the Comp Scanner but it’s bugged for some things in some regions. Was it Anemones (aka Space Pumpkins) that you found?

If you pull up the "organic structures" for the Sanguineous Rim, do you see "OneOldDuck" as one of the reporting people? If so, then your theory is correct. Otherwise, it's not even being reported for anyone, which is even worse (all my hard work to get a star on Hollywood Boulevard was for nothing).

I won't be home for another 4 hours, but I'll check once I am and let you know. I'm thinking it'll show up for me as Reported by you, but it won't show up for you in your Codex until I (or someone else) Confirms it on our end, which would be the same as "Reporting" it in your Codex, where you will now see it show up, and hopefully with an automatically Confirmed status. If that makes any sense..

What makes me doubt your theory (nothing personal) is that I think somebody would have discovered this "thing" by now. Rumor is that some specific "things" are not recording properly. My "organic structures" section is surprisingly sparse for how long I and others have been out here.

And of course this makes me start to wonder if I was the first one to discover this thing after all.... Granted, it was relatively soon after the update, but I was not out here to begin with - I had to make the journey, so anyone stationed out here would have had time to get a head-start on this.

Oi Frontier, I spit my last breath at thee! (slumps over depressed)

From the Beta, but here's how it should appear if you're the one who Reported something:

Others have Reported new things in live. It primarily seems to be the Anemones which are bugged from what I've read so far.

Although I do dabble in using the engineers the whole interface confused the hell out of me at first, it got a bit better when it got improved the second time around but I still never fell in love with it (I still think its a little messy)

I really want to love the Codex, and I know it will see improvements down the line, but I had imagined a wonderful digital encyclopedia of the galaxy... and its not is it :)

I'm trying to find something different to "Report". I've only found the one "thing" (in two different systems), so perhaps I'll have better luck if I find a different undiscovered "thing". If I'm lucky, you'll all be the first to get my signed autograph, LOL [haha]

No it's GOOD if my theory is wrong. Nothing personal taken - I'm hoping my theory is full of holes and isn't actually what's happening. Which it seems from what others have posted, that I am indeed incorrect. :)

I guess there's either lag or some buggy stuff going on with the Codex at the moment. But I'm quite happy to be wrong about the Reported/Confirmed thing.

Well I just got my name in the Codex for a geological doodad on the ground, so the composition scanner must only be broken for a few things. I still want that unique BIOLOGICAL, but at least now I know if I find it, there's at least a chance I can claim it!

WOOHOO!

Now if I may ask a slightly off-topic question - when one planet has multiple biological sites, do all sites contain the same thing, or do I need to land at each and every one to make sure something different isn't in one of those locations?

Tried looking at the docs and they were no help.

So far this morning I found an earth-like world (with no previously discovered tag) that says was added to the codex and a green gas giant that says it was added to the codex. When I look at the codex I don't see my name against anything.

I see a confirmed location which I think was the system, but my name is not against it. Does it not have a Confirmed by field? I can see a reported by entry for someone called doug 2kly away.

Completely confused.

Don't worry, Fdev seems to be confused too.

If it’s for Sulphur Water Magma Ice Geysers there’s going to be hell to pay! ;)
