I hate to say it, but I'm actually finding the Apex taxi to be useful.

APEXCEPTION ERROR DETECTED
Yeah but do you find that the shuttle pilots perform a lot of small talk? I like the quiet taxi driver. I do not like small talk ;P "So... red light district, eh? I used to frequent there myself..." "...Kay..."

You're probably right, I simply didn't remember the exact number.
Going to Colonia 100Ly at a time, semi-AFK... I would probably do that if it took twice as long, watching something in the mean-time, instead of falling asleep while diving into the sun to refuel during 100% conscious flight myself. I cry it's not an option.

I liked the Apex during Alpha, and I like using it now. I never really understood the complaints.

The real killer for me is that you can't use Apex to/from a fleet carrier. I know, I know, there's nowhere to disembark, but there should be, even if it's a copy/paste of the little area Engineers have on their ground bases.

And team mates who die on settlements should have the option of respawning on a carrier so they can Apex back to the action.

Also, if I want to buy and equip a new ship, I'd like to Apex to the shipyard, buy and fit out the vessel, then fly it home.

Yeah, we've been making heavy use of the Taxi. Whenever a Team member gets disconnected from the ship, and ends up back on the planet we just left 10 minutes ago, they can use the Taxi to get home when they relog the next day, after we both log off in frustration and curse Frontier to the rafters. This happens every single time I've played Odyssey with friends, so yeah I think Frontier knew what they were doing when they added the Taxi.

Same, I don't get what's to hate about the taxi service apart from the mandatory requirement to unlock Domino. Everything else about it is fantastic and I use it regularly despite owning 16 ships.

I do wish I can have it installed on my fleet carrier though, it would be nice to be able to go back and fro between my home station and FC without taking a ship with me.

Xabaras and I have had a real hard time with disconnects, as well. Happens a lot like you said, and it's incredibly annoying (both the disconnect, and the resulting actions needed).

For the most part single player has been working OK regardless of mode, but wings/teams have been all kinds of ed.

This won't happen, because it would allow some cool new unintended possibilities.
Like setting a chain of FCs that would act as repeaters, extending APEX area of service to THEORETICALLY unlimited
(limited only by number of FCs taking part in such infrastructure).

And unintended, in DEVS dictionary translates to "abuse".
Even if it's harmless fun for players.

I think it's a great option to have. In the Alpha got stuck at a non-functioning CZ, so just called up the taxi to take me home. Great to have the flexibility (better to have no bugs, but whatever...). It could do with some tweaks:

  • You DEFINITELY need to be able to redirect. If not mid-flight, then definitely once you reach the destination. If for any reason you can't disembark, or you forgot something etc.
  • It'd be nice if the journey would continue when you're offline. That might be more complex than the ship transfers (since the Cmdr could log in again at any point and would need to be in some sensible point along the route...) but should be do-able. It'd be a handy way to finish up a session "I'll just book a long journey down to System X to pick up my Python, then log out..." etc.

I think its a cool option, although we should be able to plot a course in our ship and have a crew member fly us as well. Not saying to afk for 500 light years but a certain distance would be great especially if they add ship interiors. You could get up from your seat and go somewhere else on your ship etc.

I DID build out a few "taxi" DBXs with Guardian and Grade 5 experimental FSDs just for the purpose of getting around between working locations like that. I guess those are a great option if I want to get there fast, and this is a great option if I want to get there without doing anything.

Sometimes it's nice to shuttle back and forth between my ship depots on autopilot.
One of the features that I LOVE. I hate having to land on planets, I do it often and I'm still bad at it. I do foot missions using taxis whenever possible, I like being miss daisy sometimes. ;)

I like it. I wanted to move a second ship to a system for BGS. 750K Cr to ship it, so I got a taxi there for 32K and flew it back. 5 jumps I think and 1500LY, so was even quicker than having it shipped. Took some head scratching to work I have to go to Astra...thingy to get it accessible though.

APEX is pretty sweet, especially if on your way to a mission, you have galaxy wide chat. What I was hoping for, seeing APEX, is that we could use our crew to pilot our ships to a destination. I still hope that is possible sometime.

For variety, they should use different ships/paints, even change names.
