I hate to say it, but I'm actually finding the Apex taxi to be useful.

Just imagine if there was an actual autopilot. I mean if they are going to have apex anyways
It would be really nice if:
(1) Your NPC crewmembers could finally visibly sit in actual real seats instead of being in some hidden compartment somewhere, and
(2) You could assign them to you pilot to various destinations just like you do with Apex now.

I would like to own a fleet carrier.
No you won't. I for myself don't have one. Our group has one, a friend payed 7-8 billion to buy it and me and the other one payed for the tritium. With three people paying for it it is not a big deal, we got a lot of money during the Void Opal mining rush, so we farmed a lot of Void opals and we sold them for the minimum price to the FC so the one who payed for the FC got some money back and he put the money in the FC to pay the services and the "rent". This "rent" is now payed for some years. If you try this alone you have to make a minimum of 10 bcr. It is hard to say who put what amount into the FC, we did some calculations and the "owner" payed at least 6bcr, and the other two of us 4bcr. There is around 1bcr and a few tons of everything in that money pit now. The weekly costs are around 20mil because of the Services inside. Now we don't use it very often, there are a few ships of us in it but the majority of my fleet is in Shinrarta Dezhra, we mostly use it to fly our Bug-Busters to Thargoid events. At the moment it is parked in Rana because we tested a way to make money we never tried before, the 50mil credit mining rush wing missions. But it is is not as profitable as void opal mining once was, at the last weekend before the launch of EDO we only made around 500 mil each, getting a FC now is another grind you do not want to try, trust me.

I find them very useful and have been using them 95% of the time. I tab out and do duolingo language lessons, expecting people to sit there and do nothing is encouraging a criminal waste of time, some minigames wouldn't have gone amiss.

It's very subjective.
I have THREE (because of accounts I manage for "family members", obviously) and enough credits to pay the upkeep for them for years.
And they come in handy as exactly what their name says: mobile FLEET CARRIERS, bringing all my ships and mods exactly where I need them wnen I need them, saving me from endless jumping back and forth every time I want to change a ship or loadout.

And when I was mining a lot, it was perfect to drop the cargo to FC parked near mining spot, saving me several trips to sale station.

etc, etc

I understand your point, but mining is dead now, Frontier nerfed it into the core of this planet. And I do not like Core mining much, I suffered hard from RNG. Instead of buying a FC I did the Rank grind and bought a lot of ships and engineered them. So I was too busy to make tons of credits.

I mean, don't get me wrong, Odyssey definitely has some nice features, and it's not wrong to enjoy them. I think Apex Interstellar is a great addition to the game that was sorely needed.

I still choose doing a quick mission or any activity i like and/or is useful
in the 15 minutes between setting carrier to jump to MY location and it's arrival,
or just to take a REAL break
instead of being forced to do
mindless "half-gameplay" of several jumps to get to my assets stored on a FC/station a few hundreds ly away.

APEX is only a solution in very close range (100ly?),
you need to change a shuttle at least five times to reach 500 ly range of single FC jump,
what brings us back to a crippled "I am playing and not playing a video game simultaneously" experience.

FC is just "deluxe", superior option of almost any in-game alternative for similar goal,
so the only REAL reason why someone would deny this obvious fact is lack of credits.

I love not having to fly my spaceship.

Thank you, FD.

What are you talking about? I've been RES mining over the past couple of days and have been making money hand over fist.

Sometimes it's nice to shuttle back and forth between my ship depots on autopilot.
I do too. Not so much for re-power missions, but for "fetch me a thing" missions are perfect for the taxi. Pick up a bunch transports, do Apex to one at a time, and return with a bunch done. Leaves me free to do other things in the house and have some play-breaks.

Except it drops you 600m away from a base half the time. Normally in pitch black.
I find pickup the weirdest - if I've been a good boy and just done a delivery run it will park 500m away in the middle of nowhere and make me run for it. If I've just done a heist and am being searched for by the whole base it will happily land at the base - and get destroyed by the defences.

At least I think that's what is happening when I get the notification it has landed, quickly followed by a refund on my apex fee 🤔

The only reason I'm finding apex useful is that I'm currently locked out of my ships due to a bug and so it's the only way I have of getting around. It's also what caused the bug though, so...
