I hate Witcher 3

Witcher 3 is overrated. The combat is terrible.
Good cut-scenes, though. :)

But to each his/her own. heh heh.

The narrative, world building is imo top notch
Combat is not bad as well, but again subjective

But mainly - the choices and consequences.

Witcher 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Spoiled the others for me.

The stories are great, as Jenner say combat system sock.

I like assassin creed origins but it lacks in story telling and the voice acting.

I didn't play it for ages because I could just feel how overrated it was. But once I accepted that, I grabbed complete addition at a great price and realised how good the game was.

Sure it was as overrated, but not by as much as I had assumed. It was still a great game, that heaps of work had clearly gone into.

I mean just compare the levels of depth in story telling to (I won't say elite because it's just not even fair), many game's on the market. Its a healthy balance humour mixed with some quite adult themes.

Combat is basic and movement can be a bit clunky, but the story telling and world building is very good.

It never feels like a grind to progress as even side quests feel pretty unique, and you always feel like what you are doing or being asked to do, is pretty logical within context.
Reactions to your actions are not always clear the first play through, as they are so well woven into your regular play.

Good puzzles, that were engaging enough to have me working them out without looking up. Lots of loot and free customisation options. Full fleshed out DLC.

It's hard to stay hating. Credit where it's due.

Its spoiled other games for me.

Playing Assassin's creed last couple of days - beautiful game, good gameplay, should be really happy with it.

But it ain't no Witcher 3.

:(

I agree. Since I played W3, I look at RPGs differently. And it's no good.
Or the other games suck. One of those.

Yes Witcher 3 is amazing. I still can't understand how they could make such a masterpiece in so many aspects, gameplay, story, quests, replay value, graphics, amount of content, while so many other massive developers fail. Its incredible how much CD Projekt Red has improved in a few years. Can't wait to see their next game, it will be revolutionary for sure.

Yeah I really don't like the combat system in Witcher 3 as well.
At first I couldn't really put my finger on what or why — but eventually, I personally found it's the lack of consequences in your weapon swings.
The ability to immediately cancel any heavy attack with a dodge, turned combat a bit too much into "mastery of dodge button" for my taste.

I also despise the "crafting material gathering" in games like Witcher, which are "walk up to static objects and press E" over and over again.

Amazing world, consequences of actions and characters though. These are the things that makes me come back to it.

fallout 4 case in point. such a bad game in comparison imo. still liked it. but it ain't no witcher 3 either.

Wonder if ELEX is any good....

Yeah, Fallout 4 was a disappointment in many ways, but I still prefer that to many other open world RPGs. Just a matter of taste I suppose. I typically gravitate towards Bethesda games.

You should try F4 VR. What ever issues I had with it, they were forgotten. It is an extraordinary experience in VR.

If it weren't for the settlement building (and mods) I would have forgotten Fallout 4 long ago, even though I still play Skyrim (with mods) today lol. It's not that F4 is bad, it's still better than most RPGs out there, but it definitively ain't no Witcher 3, it's not even on the same league as Skyrim.

But I agree with the OP, Witcher 3 (and 2, not as good as W3 but I still loved it's world and characters) spoiled the genre for me. Since W3, Kingdom Come was the only RPG I was able to enjoy.

Skyrim, W3 and in some ways Kingdom Come set the bar very very high for the genre, each in it's own quite distinct way. Any new RPG game (or game for that matter) has it's work cut out.

I was *just* thinking about that today! I don't have a VR headset, but I would really like to try out Fallout4 and Skyrim VR.

Oh man...I hate settlements. lol.

Modding, though, that's part of why I love Bethesda games so much, and why I'm willing to overlook so many of their faults. :)

In my opinion, FO4 is second only to Elite when comes to VR. All the other VR "games" are fun for a while, but as far as full-fledged games, go, there isn't really much else to choose from. And BEING I the world of Fallout, talking with NPCs face to face, fighting, taking cover, hell, even petting Dogmeat... It's really great.

If you don't want to spend much on the headset, I can, with clear conscience, recommend Windows Mixed Reality headsets. After several months of being "beta", they are now on par with their counterparts, plus they are MUCH cheaper.

Is there a first person mod for this. I absolutely hate third person views in games. They always seem like lazy console ports.

Witcher 3 is the best game ever. Get all the expacs, do all the side quests. And yes- it ruins all other games. I wish CD Projekt Red would buy Elite Dangerous and plug its magic into its remarkable setting.

Yes that was a pain but the Sim settlements mod took alot of that hassle away, the game became much better for me after that. As for Witcher, I am still working my way through the first one!
Fallout NV was awesome tho, easily the best in the series apart from Fallout 2 of course. ;)

RPGs are my favourite genre, I bought w3 on release. Tried it multiple times, never liked it much. There is zero subtlety, the gameplay mechanics are okay at best and the storytelling is a game pretending to be literature like a highschool teen writing a haiku. Yes, it has the correct number of syllables, well done Billy. :p

It looks good, for a game. Not as good as Battlefield or SW, but good. It has a good story, for a game, though not close to games like torment: tides of numenera. It has poor gameplay, for a game. Whick kinda makes it rather mediocre overall. I have books for storytelling and movies for visuals. Its not even top dog in either instance for games. W3 doesnt come close to being spectacukar in these areas and its redeeming quality, gameplay, simply aint that much. But a kid dies, racism is bad, you get to pick between two women to screw and an evil man turns out to have a heart. Amazing. ;)

Just my 2c, but it isnt in my top3 rpgs of recent years, never mind games in general.
