Elite / Frontier I have a question for Elite 3 ( FFE)

hello yall, i have a question about the game frontier first encounters...

i was wondering something.

on some screenshots of the game, you can see there is NPC faces when you are in a station or city for example...

but everytime i played using DOSbox ( DOS emulator ), it never loads the NPCs faces.

Do yall know how to make them appears ?

i know in elite 2 there were those npc faces, and from the box screenshot of FFE , suposedly there are in the game too, but like whenever i play the game, its just blank , no faces.

if you can fix that would be nice

They are from the CD-ROM release of the game which included literally dozens of "top-quality" videos welcoming you to the station, BBS etc.

It sounds like you are probably playing the floppy disk version which didn't have any, or haven't set up DOSBox to use the CD files.
If you have the CD version then you can copy all of the files to a folder and then mount that as a CD drive in DOSBox. You'll also need to configure FFE to use that drive - so if necessary, Hex-Edit the file "FIRSTENC.CFG", which is a 2 byte binary file that should contain the CD drive letter and a colon, e.g. "Z:".

If you are playing on a PC there are several alternatives to using DOSBox ;)

Hey, thanks AndyJ, thats really cool from you ! :)

Yeah well, i dont have the game . I plan on buying a physical copy, but i downloaded the game online for free. Then it must be the floppy version ! :p

idk if the npc faces is really worth it, but maybe i should try the cd rom version when i get it.

well the game works on the old DOS interface so i dont think you can run it properly without an emulator...

althought some games might work when you check " run as a windows 95 application ".. i didnt tried
