I have a warrant on my ship, yet I can't pay for it ANYWHERE

2 systems now at interstellar factors, yet it tells me APPARENTLY I have notoriety? Even though it was a stray bullet/beam in a damn haz rez, killing wanted ships only, if I have notoriety WHY can't I find it anywhere to see what I have? Why introduce a damn system with no way for the player to find out what it is at? As well, the info on notoriety in the damn codex says it's on the commander yet the warrant is for my SHIP so, I am confused as all hell, why can't I pay the gods damned fine and be done with it? Wish they bothered putting something ingame to notate notoriety, and if it is there, it seems to be hidden under all the damn menus....

Okay, so. You got notoriety because the ship you shot got killed, which unfortunately means you're on the hook for murder. It's a 5000cr bounty and a point of notoriety for that.
The bounty isn't a huge deal, but you can't pay it off until the notoriety is gone. Notoriety ticks down by itself though, one point every two hours.

So just go somewhere you're not wanted or switch to a clean ship for a couple of hours and you're gucci.

Such a stupid system, why is that info just so stupidly hard to find? As well why no countdown to show when it will go down as well, the fact a SINGLE bullet counts is just downright idiotic, they need to revisit it and make it a damage threshold, I was killing time until my ship got to the system so I could putter around on a planet anyway and now I have to relocate it AGAIN due to a system that punishes for the sake of punishment with no way to get out of it other than doing nothing for 2 hours or leaving the system you want to be in for 2 hours as well.

You can see your notoriety on your status screen. You don't get it by stray bullets, only by killing ships. However if you have notoriety, you won't be able to pay fines till it goes away.

You can leave your ship docked and minimize the game and it will decrease. I think it is 1-2 hours per number..

This post is my new benchmark for how consequence adverse the community is and why the game will probably never be more than a collection of shallow caricatures.

"I only shot him once, it's not my fault he died, and two hours of probably still being totally ignored is cruel and unusual punishment for homicide!"

If you're bounty hunting, it's a hazard of the job to get charged with murder occasionally. That gets you notoriety that lasts for two hours of gameplay, plus it puts a bounty on you in the system where you got it.

Dealing with this is no problem. The moment you see the charge come at the top your screen and "wanted" appear in red over your fuel gauge, you should boost away from the scene of the crime and get into supercruise and/or jump to another system. You don't have to do that in a Haz RES, but you should go to a new system as soon as you leave it. Once you're in a new system, you can find a new RES to work in until the notoriety has gone. Nobody will be interested that you're a criminal from another system, except that you might get an occasional bounty hunter with a kill warrant scanner, who will want to kill you for the bounty. Unless in an anarchy system, do not shoot them until they shoot you first otherwise you'll become wanted again. Once they shoot you, they become wanted, so you can legally kill them

I normally bounty hunt in LTT 15574. When I become wanted, I jump to Kremainn, Brani or Freng, all of which have very busy RESs, and all are under Zachary Hudson's control, so if you sign up with him and deliver 100T of his stuff, you get at least 20% extra bounty money. He's no.4 at the moment, so until Thursday, you'll get 20% extra. A. Lavigny-Duval is number 2, so if you sign up with her and hunt in her systems, you'll get 40% extra bounty money. These are the only two that give bounty bonuses.

Another thing you could do if the rings have one or more HAZ RESs, like in LTT 15574, is leave the high RES and jump into the Haz RES, where, generally, nobody is interested in your criminal status, but always check that your targets are wanted because you might rarely see clean bounty hunters or even police there. Don't forget when you run out of ammo, that you can't go back to the station. You'll have to jump to another system.

When the notoriety has gone, you can clear the bounty and your criminal status at the IF.
