I have essentially been under a rock while playing this game.

A while back, I tried the on foot combat and one, I realize I am not very good at it and two, that it is not easy to upgrade Weapons and armor relative to the process for ship upgrades.
I gave up on it.
So I had been more than satisfied with mining for years, but noted that the returns were diminishing.
Since the Mandalay came out, I have been having some fun doing exobiology farming, but decided again to see if I could start the process of availing myself to on foot missions.
(By the way, I never knew that that one activity would net you so much ARX. I always wondered how one could actually get enough ARX in the game by just playing, and that is the answer).

All that being said, I have seen the sharing and caring threads, but for the most part ignored it. I find that just randomly over time you can find a lot of partially upgraded stuff in the tier 2 and 3 range, but need to finally go about getting the materials for engineering the personal weapons and armor.

I found one Youtube guide that looked promising for this:

GUIDE to Gathering On Foot Materials WITHOUT Combat

The problem is that it is dependent on this website dcoh.watch for finding abandoned bases. Unfortunately, I see that this is no longer useful as I guess the war is ending or the sight is possibly no longer maintained.

All that said, how can I find locations with abandoned bases to collect materials?

Sorry about the long post and its rambling nature.

Well, I'd say set your galmap to filter for systems with Infrastructure Failure or Outbreak (those are the main ones) and Bust, Drought, Famine (I literally typed the full list a few days ago so I can't be bothered looking it up again :p) but the galmap filters are broken now. Still maybe the galmap gods will bless you.

Also don't try this outside a powerplay region since settlements outside a PP region don't produce mats but no one is sure if that is intentional or not because communications are awesome.

When I started playing Odyssey I just used the standard Srv for combat, used to land outside bases and kill everyone with it. :)

Then once I got better weapons and stuff I got into on foot combat.

This might not be what you're looking for as an option but what I like to do in Odyssey is running missions or gathering mats in stealth, without ever engaging in combat.
It takes practice to learn, but I enjoy it so much more than just arriving and shooting at anyone in sight.
For that, I have a Maverick suit with just an unengineered pistol, which I only use as a noisemaker, if needed.

You can take the "Restore Power to Settlement" missions, and those bases are sometimes abandoned. I am told if you go there and there are scavs present, you can relog or jump away and come back and check again. Also, scavs may show up later....but, I ran one yesterday and never saw a living person.
