I imagine a fair few of you have been with PlayStation for a long time. So, a question regarding the PS2.

Any good games you can recommend?

Why am I asking? Well, I found a near brand new PS2 in the back of a cupboard a few days ago. I intend on getting some controllers, memory cards, etc., but I never really experienced the full library of games on the PS2.

So, what would you recommend? Knowing the regional differences in availability at the PS2 era, it's worth pointing out I live in Britain.

Final Fantasy XII - possibly the best of the FF series. Though X is also pretty darn good.

There's loads, and don't forget you can play PS ONE games too!

Some of the best PS2 games:

Beyond Good and Evil
Gran Tourismo 4
Bully
Simpsons Hit and Run
Medal of Honor: Frontiline
Ratchet and Clank: Up your arsenal
God of War 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003)
Black
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Metal Gear Solid 3
Futurama

The best thing? I got all of the above from my two local CEX stores, for less than £25

Yes, you just need an original ps1 memory card for saves.

Also, FFXII is a great game. Although it's soon on ps4. FFX ain't bad too.

LMA Manager is fun too, if you like your footie.

If you have a friend for couch co-op, and are a fan of the movie (but even if you aren't), The Warriors remains today the most fun I've ever had playing with a friend. Brawler made by Rockstar, the closest thing there is to a modern-day (well, kinda modern now) beat em up.

And as Lloyd mentioned above, ICO and Shadow of the Coloussus are absolute masterpieces.

I always loved the Max Payne games, of course for the John Woo type action but the stories were always so good and so dark. And I always loved the Conflict series, like Conflict desert storm, Conflict Vietnam any of them. PS2 had some great games and such a HUGE library.

The PS2 was the first console I really got into, sooo many fantastic games! A few surefire recommendations I can make are:
  • Ratchet and Clank
  • Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando
  • Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal
  • Spiderman 2
These games pretty much defined my late-primary-school / early-secondary-school days! :D

p.s. This is the first thing I've ever posted on the Frontier Forums, I've been following Elite: Dangerous since the beginning but never had a good enough PC to run it, so I can't wait to finally dive in on PS4 (and hopefully PSVR one day). I decided to join the forums to take my mind off the looong wait for next Tuesday, and also because this community is amazing! [smile]

Shadow of the Colossus
Legacy of Kain 2
Twisted Metal Black
Kinetica
Star Ocean Till The End of Time
Rogue Galaxy
All Shin Megami Tensei games

Shadow of the Colossus
ICO
Zone of the Enders
Okami
Silent Hill 2
Gran Turismo 3 & 4
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3
Devil May Cry
Dead or Alive 2

I haven't touched PlayStation since PS2. The Jak and Daxter trilogy and Star Wars Battlefront were my go-to games.

If you're looking for something even older by the way I suggest Vanark from the PSX.

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness

Just finished another playthrough. Didn't do well critically and I don't think most people were aware of it's existence. It's by far not the best game in the series, but it's an obscure title with a good narrative and excellent ambience.

Also you can get it on ebay for like $2

Beyond Good and Evil and Star Ocean Till The End of Time are definitely two of my favorite games. Wish they'd port Star Ocean to the vita.

as pointed already: All Shin Megami Tensei games
Metal Gear Solid as well, if you haven't played the PS3 remasters or on PSP/Vita.

ICO remains one of my all time favourite games and is well worth a try if you've never played it. It's not for everyone but I still enjoy how calming it is.

Agreed. It's more of an art project than a game. Shadow of the Colossus is a pure game though, and a hell of a game too. Im so glad there's a new remastered version coming to the PS4. Hopefully with Pro support as well. :)
