I just bought Elite: Dangerous DVD edition, how long does it take to arrive?

Hello!
As the title says I just bought the DVD edition of Elite: Dangerous and it doesn't give an estimated time to arrive, it only gave me one option for shipping (Standard £3) and nothing else. I'm just curious so I know when to get rid of my social life.

Have you checked your account for downloadable items? I really don't know but you might find an activation code that will allow you to download the game as well.

Hate to break it to you but the DVD probably just contains an old version of the launcher, which you'll have to update and then download the entire game. At least that's what used to be on the DVD. This game is constantly updated so there's no point in having a disc. You might as well download the launcher from the store now and start destroying your social life.

While that is most likely true meta, I do not have access to a key until the DVD arrives because, as it did state when buying it, the key is in the box so can't be redemed before it arrives. I do sorta regret buying the DVD edition in that sense but I do like having physical copies of games sometimes.

Back to the question though, does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes for it to be delivered?

Ah thank you very much! :D yeah it should be here pretty soon then. ;) The excitement is real.

Whilst you are still excited you can get a head start by reading the manual and watching the tutorials/youtube videos etc:

.
Also read the forums for some good new player tips.
Already stated on some threads tonight if you are planning on playing with keyboard and mouse then seriously consider getting a HOTAS. My Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X was cheap and certainly good enough to get going, I'm still using it 2 years on.
Also go through all the options for keys and Hotas to assign them to things that make sense to you.
A good one is to re-assign the "Jettison all cargo" key - I made mine as the same key but with the shift as well.
And the best tip is to try any and everything in the starter ship without the worry of losing too much.
If, when you do get some cash you decide to buy the ship of your dreams make sure you have enough for insurance to cover your losses at all times or don't feel too bad when you lose all.
Play in Open mode if you want, particularly when you have nothing to lose. If you're not bothered about PvP then the Mobius group would be a good group to join.

The biggest thing is to enjoy yourself and don't grind (too much) to the point of burning yourself out.

Fly safe Cmdr!

Thank you! I'll have a look around while I wait and hopefully not fly into the side of someone straight away...
PvP won't really be my thing, at first at least. I do really like the idea of it though.
I plan on using a controller to start with but if I get into the game I probably will invest in a joystick! :D That Thrustmaster one looks pretty good, however I'm left handed :(

Good luck CMDR, fly safe and maybe see you in the black...

Thank you both! Same to you, hopefully we'll meet upon friendly terms. ;)
Fly safe!

You do know in christian countries it is Christmas and the postal services are overwhelmed. I bet you won't get it till after the festive season in your backwater hole.
