I just got murdered

I'll freely admit to missing the point of the OP. What was it?
If you read it without assuming the OP is a whiner who wants to spoil your fun, this is it in a nutshell:
I'm playing open
I'm having a ball
I made two "schoolboy errors" one due to a lack of concentration, one due to a poor tactical assessment.
First error put me in vulnerable financial situation. Second cost a days worth of gameplay.
I completely accept that:
a. The game is still in its infancy
b. Psychopathic predatory play is actually acceptable and SHOULD be allowed.
...however I definitely feel that the "justice" systems are a tad lacking for "satisfaction" for the victim and as a deterrent for the perpetrator.
I wasn't intending to whine and didn't insist on changing the game to my liking.
Then followed 8 pages of discussion, which was interesting for the most part.

I seriously wonder sometimes if the developers are playing the same game I am? Not withstanding the overall cool immersion and visuals of the game but the PvE game is seriously wanting.. We can either space truck, shoot at NPCs or go off exploring.. kinda gets old rather quickly. Much of the fun in the game is battling other players, but it seems we can't be having that. *Fun detected?*..apparently we should be just happy grinding.. grind grind grind. :(

Your obviously in a bad mood today judging by your posts. You do realize that these safety nets only exist in civilized space. A huge chunk of systems are anarchy where anything goes without intervention by security forces or the pilot federation. There are also conflict zones for team based PvP.

All the developers are trying to do is create a somewhat believable simulated scifi experience with proper rules and regulations similar to what we expect in real life.

If you want to trade with limited risk stay in safe established systems and expect to be protected. Take risks for better profits in ungoverned space and you risk being bullied.

It's simple and will eventually work once the devs have balanced the response to antisocial gamers and punishing them for serious crimes in a way that actually works as a deterrent. There are plenty of opportunities for player vs player. Just some cowardly people seem to get their kicks by being sociopath bullies but don't want to be bullied back.

I think the new systems coming in to try and reinforce the rules are reasonable
* Murder is not serious enough: This is an interesting one that has a couple of different strands to unpick. Firstly, we are looking to add in a future update a change that will cause any bounty claimed to become a special, non-expiring fine for the perpetrator. The idea is that when you commit a crime you are expected to pay at some point. Currently some game play flow options remove the bounty completing when you are killed, which is not what we want.

It's also worth noting that a bounty is not simply a fine to pay (otherwise it would be called a fine). It is also a green light for you to be attacked. In fact, this is undoubtedly the more serious part of the punishment. I think we still have some way to go to tweak background events to pick up on Commander bounties more (as in, when you fly around with a bounty the game takes it into account when deciding what to generate in the game world near you).

We already have a system that keeps bounties alive when you are killed but they are not claimed (dormant bounties). I just think it would be too punishing to have bounties that kept on being active after respawning. Sure this would not be an issue for the tiny minority of super wealthy Commanders, but our data suggests that losing a ship is a non-trivial event for the majority of pilots - and having a more or less permanent target on your back would likely just stop people committing crimes. That's my current take, anyway.

We are considering bounty adjustments based on some difference metric between Commanders (for example, Elite Commanders getting slapped with a bigger bounty when attacking lower rated pilots, or perhaps based on ship strength).
and in the spirit of the game world, going all the way back to the novella that came with the original game.

Hey all - Until the game matures a little more in this area, I'm trying to start a community to help keep those who are serial killers and grief to task. I understand the dev's don't want the boards here overrun with drama which is why a dedicated community is required.

I've created a subreddit for this purpose reddit.com/r/eliterevenge where people can post their rage stories, player bounties, track and hunt bounties or just name and shame. This is our change to reclaim the galaxy back for civilized folk.
