I just purchased a python, advice on loadout so far

I was finally able to purchase the python i been wanting last night, here is my loadout so far, i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on if i have a good loadout so far with it:

large hardpoints: i have so far 1 SF pulse laser turret
med hardpoints: 2x 1f pulse laser- default i havent upgraded them yet

utility mounts: 1 heat sink launcher
2 point defense
1 chaff launcher

core: 7d power plant
6d thrusters
5c frame shift drive
4a life support
7c power distributor
6e sensors
5c fuel tank default

I also have a 5e fuel scoop, 4e shield cell bank, then default cargo racks and planetary approach suite and basic discovery scanner

I am thinking i should have a turret weapon below for a large hardpoint and then another laser for my last large hardpoint and then 2 med multi cannon weapons in the med slots but i wasnt sure if that would be a good idea, also should i get another shield cell bank? and would 1 heat sink launcher be ok?

i would appreciate any advice as i would like to keep my python competitive against the new AI, until there perhaps is a AI adjustment

also i am thinking of running my cobrak mk3 untill i can get some more money to upgrade more of my python and for extra insurance cost

I cannot recommend flying the Python against the new NPCs without 6A thrusters. Even then, smaller ships will generally be able to out turn you. This right here used to be the bare minimum Python I would recommend to people, and it's probably still ok for running cargo missions and retrieval missions, but I wouldn't expect to do too great in combat. I'd probably swap the interdictor for a collector limpet controller.

This is coming from someone who absolutely loves the Python; it's my BGS ship, my undermining ship, my combat zone ship. While I haven't spent enough time with the new AI to know for sure, those last two roles may require another ship now, or a lot of load out changes when I go from BGS to pure pew pew. When we get Engineers I will probably be tracking down someone to improve my thrusters first, then my shields, then my weapons.

Congrats on the Python!

I recently (one month back) bought one too, mine has:

Large Hardpoints: 2 large gimballed Beam lasers, 1 large gimballed multi in the front
Medium Hardpoints: 2 medium gimballed multis

Utility Mounts: 2 Point def. (one in the front, one in the back), 1 shield booster 20%, 1 heatsink;

7C Powerplant
6B Thrusters
5A FSD
4D Lifesupport (dont waste money for better unless you plan on fighting on stationless systems)
7D Power Distributor
6D Sensors
5C Fuel tank

5C Shield
Docking computer
and the rest is cargo..

I use it for missions and trading, sometimes I like to shoot at NPCs at nav. beacons and I can kill NPCs when interdicted as long as theyr not ranked master or above and not flying big ships..

I had turreted multis on the medium hardpoints and a gimballed cannon for the large one at the front, the turrets are awsome, but since I need more credits to buy better stuff to be able to kill bigger ships, I opted for the configuration above.. Small ships go down in the first run and thats what counts since the update because those pesky flies can out-manouver us.. 2 eagles brought me down to 30% hull cause it took me that long to kill them.. thank god for the turrets, slowly chunking away the shields and then the hull... But now in the first run forward they go boom, and I learned to the "boost-switch-FC-off-turn-around-going-backwards-and-shoot-thing" so I have yet to loose my shields again... ASPs and imp couriers, cobras and even vulture NPCs Ill tackle, but if its a bigger ship like another Python or better I just boost away for now.. Dont want to risk those 3.5mil cred rebuy..

But thats just me..

New to the forum, and looking for friend.. My gamertag is "Avgvsto" hit me up for some Python-wing fun haha...

There as as many builds of Python as there are flyers of them, everyone has their favourite build for whatever they're doing.

I have a general mission board setup I use...slightly buffed to suit the new NPC's. It works... and the mil spec armour has saved a rebuy once or twice. Not everyone can afford the armour, certainly. Even with lightweight alloy, it's a decent enough boat. All bought at LYR systems with 15% discount.

thanks for the suggestions on build, and yeah can definitely team up sometime, my gt is deathcries feel free to add me sometime

honest opinion: strip it and park it, till you have 85 mio (cheapest usefull (trading) python configuration) + 3 rebuys. or better, strip it, till you have 125 mio (cheap multipurpose python).

Whats the intentions for it?

I'd strongly suggest no combat as that thing is paper thin.

Under fitted ships are begging for rebuy if in powerplay, if not, toss 10 tons of gold to appease the pirates if the need arises.

How much credits do you have to work with?

right now i am going to do bb trade missions maybe some some smuggling missions, just want to be able to defend myself when attacked and or being able to keep attacker at bay till i can jump away. right now i have it parked and using my cobra to make money i dont have enough for rebuy so keeping it parked for now till have insurance money amd or AI is balanced from frontier which i hope is soon. i am not pledged to anyone right now as pp will be very hard right now

Here's my build: http://bit.ly/1XZQnjz

Except that for the large hardpoints I have 3 large multi-cannons but they're not on the website yet. I can't really recommend anything, though... This build suits my needs well, it's good for trading and I can fight at Nav Beacons as long as I want with it. However, one-on-one with a smaller, faster ship it's useless. The new AI outmaneuvers this ship easily. My first goal after Horizons is released is to upgrade the thrusters as much as possible.

Powerplay is very hard in poorly fitted ships. Any new players I encounter, I party them up and get them to defect for the time being.

A well fitted Cobra will stomp all over a poor load out on a Python. It best to run the cobra for as long as you need to and upgrade from there, potentially look into ASP Explorer as a middle ground for now.

Here is my old build and it did very well. I tweaked it a hair as with how effective missiles are they would be there rather than multi cannons.

Tough enough you should be able to maneuver around AI until FSD is ready to go, or alternatively, if you think you can win, Let those missles fly. Aim for modules on the big ships like the thrusters, on small ships, hit them head on and take the weapons out. Any thing surface mounted gets destroyed in a real hurry!

missions = you will be interdicted and attacked, level of attackers also depending on mission levels and/or yours. that build won't make it. in 2.1 i wouldn't fly my 85 mio build, but definetly not for missions. 120 mio+ ...

if you are looking for a stepping stone from the cobra, think about an AspE (20 mio A-grade), clipper or federal dropship (both 60 mio a-grade) if you have the rank, till you can outfit a python.

Sorry to be a bit negative but I'm trying to save you a re-buy when it goes      up Cmdr.

Love the python but this 1.6 update has changed a few things which can cost you credits as my re-buy currently just short of 6million.

So if in doubt boost and run buddy 😁😁

oh yeah, just as "jedimaster68" said, when in doubt boost and run buddy.

But it is a really good time to learn the FAOFF manouver, killed a Dangerous FAS last night with the same configuration posted before, no hull damage.. Its like it didnt understando I was going on reverse and didnt shoot.. I got interdicted and gave it a shot, good for me.. haha...

Anyway, did you guys notice that when you hit boost the ship becomes a LOT more manouverable in 1.6? Like, hold the left tumbstick up and hit boost, as its acceleratig it manouvers alot.. Dont know if it was like this before, but I just noticed it.. Before 1.6 I just put the throtle in the blue zone and fired away, boosting only to escape when necessary...

Well, Im still learning.. haha
