I know Horizons is not even a beta version but ...

These graphics look poor to me, especially the dust. Jesus! I have seen this when blowing up ships (the exposion is not really a high-end animation or whatever). Just some 2D image looks extremely unrealistic. :/

Anyone else has this feeling? I don't want to land on planets that look like plastic and don't to see dust that looks like transparent paper (especially not if it doesn't even match the colours).
When looking into the distance, the graphics seems to lose quality and the planet itself looks like plastic. Also the crashed T9 looks just added into the environment (you would probably see it below the surface if you could glitch through). No real crashing impacts on the terrain, just an "added" T9. :(

I so hope there will be some serious improvement graphic wise for horizons because this looks like my phone could run ED.

What do you think?

Dude, settle down. As you said, it's not even Beta yet. I don't expect a lot of polish to be applied until they get the mechanics working the way they want. They get blasted for not sharing enough about their development work, and now they're getting blasted for sharing early-stage development work. Sheeesh, they can't win, can they...

No, I think it will not improve. What you see is it.

/sarcastic reply

You open up with 'I know it's beta but' then going on to say what's not right at it's current stage of development. As far as the dust is concerned, sure it's a bit rough but it's volumetric.

What were you expecting for pre-beta footage?

I didn't get the impression that he is trying to be angry-critical. I think one of the reasons they have posted the videos is to see how we will pick them apart, what stands out to us as needing the most improvement and what we like the most. I agree with the OP, I'd rather the "smoke" effect be removed than stay in that state, we are going much faster than the lunar rovers (he was doing 20m/s?), so we'd kick up more dust than they did, but the 2D layering of the cloud was really very noticeable and distracting. I have some faith in FD though, they love polish and detail, some things slip past or must be compromised (looking at you asteroids) not quite perfect, but for the vast majority I've never seen a game so visually tailored toward perfection.

On a purely positive note, I really like that it looks like driving that thing at speed will be like wrestling an alligator, SRV-SRV combat could be really amazing.

Combine that with the thruster moves and there are going to be some crazy skateboarding-style airtime combats going on.

Yes, now if we could only eject ourselves from the drivers seat, whip out dual pistols as we flip over the enemy SRV, blast the enemy through his windscreen, double flip back into our still gliding SRV and drive off over the horizon....perfection.

still in development had not seen that video yet so thank you for sharing , i am pretty sure they polish it up before
release , one thing i did not like was the radar it seems to be kinda blocking the heat / speed readout its still transparent
but i can already see being annoyed by this.

Looking forward to driving though looks like fun.

Looked good to me, would love to see tire tracks though.

Since graphics really dont matter that much, its no big deal to me and I'd play it if it was 10x worse.
although that said, it seems ok to me, i mean its not even in beta yet.

Really? Did you really have to be that person? Its people like you that stop companies like this from releasing early footage. David even went to the trouble to point out all the issues with it and someone STILL bloody complains.

I find this really frustrating because spreading negativity about pre-production footage will just stop them releasing more.

I'm still hoping they fix 1.4

Over the last month I've invested almost $2K in system upgrades primarily to improve ED immersion/game play, and the graphics from 1.3 to 1.4 show a distinct loss of quality as the jaggies are visibly distracting in the current release.

I realize there is a bit of trade off between quality and performance, but this isn't the compromise I was looking for.

This is why we don't normally see gameplay videos until release day.

They pointed out on reddit that the SRV isn't even textured. It says quite clearly in the video it's quick-and-dirty. This isn't about putting something together for a game show (it's running on a fairly ordinary graphics card) There is a point where you have to be reasonable given everything the developer has said about the footage being shown. Also it looks like fantastic fun, but I guess space PC games seem to be about making you feel better about the fancy graphics card in your machine and benchmarking it rather than fun.

This is another quick-and-dirty unedited video capture from Horizons on a dev machine (the same GTX 770 as before). It was taken on a rocky moon (somewhere between Earth and Mars in size). Adam is driving this SRV, Eddie the other one. A few things still need work – the display to the right (‘mass lock’ etc) is still to be changed, some audio and visual effects are missing, eg buggy texturing and motion-blur on the tyres are not working, and Eddie’s SRV was not showing on the scanner in this build. The point is it is still in development, but it is already great fun to drive.

If it's doable, it will happen.
