I miss smuggling

Hi all.

As title. Couple of years ago in my cobra, I had a whale of a time boosting through the rack, emergency braking before hitting the back of the station. There was the danger of being scanned, interdicted etc.
And the pay was good!

Now, I can't remember the systems I used back then, and I can't seem to find decent paying small tonnage missions.

So. Have they disappeared, morphed into passenger missions etc ?
Any advice please.

Find an Anarchy system, get Allied with the controlling faction and the odd small mission will turn up. Usually use a T6 but a Cobra III or IV works too.

Smuggling was fun. The risk... the reward... getting caught... getting away with it....

Too much fun though, people complained and it was "balanced". I hope it comes back in some form.

Still pays good, but mostly high tonnage. Lowest I see is a few mill for around 80 tonnes. High paying smuggling routes seem to require a big freighter, 130 tones or higher, paying up to 6mill. I tend to do the weapons runs, plenty of slave runs around but I avoid them.

I top up the cargo bay with illegal missions (depending where I am operating) Good money, and still a lot of fun.. I do miss those long range Robigo runs in a Cobra MKIII or Python

Here's me almost screwing up a drugs run, payout wasn't great (1.4 mill for 140 tonnes) but I was heading there anywhere with legal cargo. Strange seeing Artemis Lodge looking so pristine, that station is a mess now.

I miss smuggling the Wanted Passengers back when the Station would kill you if you got scanned, that was a rush in my blacked out Orca.

Actually it was 10 times more exciting doing those missions to Planetary Bases, that would take some planning. Good times.

Bring that back - maybe War Criminals or some special type of mission that would bring the Station guns to fire on you again if you got detected.

Good to hear it still exists.

I personally feel that smuggling should only be possible in a small ship though. I mean how can a T9 possibly sneak anywhere!

I get all misty eyed when the ghost of "Robigo" is invoked.

I think I'm gonna take a moment here :(

Subbed to your channel already ☺.
Shame about the missions tho. I'm in a keelback for the change and it's engineered so I was fancying a few cheeky runs! It's a bit easy in a Python by comparison.
Nice flying by the way, I can't do fa off, at all. Maybe I shouldn't practice on planets.
If I find any good runs I'll give you a shout.

You can still "smuggle" wanted passengers like rebel leaders, criminals etc. , except now the station starts shooting immediately if caught before making it through the mailslot.

Yeah my smuggling ship of choice is the Cobra MKIII. I enjoy hiding some illegal cargo amongst the legal goods on my big freighters, spices up the trade runs a little bit, and can pay quite nicely too.

Robigo in my asp getting chased 400ly. interdicted continuously. avoiding scans. high speed docking. Jumpers for goalposts.

Happy days

I misread that as "I miss snuggling". You username did not help, OP ;)

And yeah i miss the times when silent running was both required and effective.

Potential death by station was great fun.
Line up slot and boooooost!
Proper smuggling. And I had my hardest missions going to planetary bases, loved them.

Yeah, username is unfortunate. Long story short, it's my Xbox gamertag because I just wanted to get online quickly and thought I'd change it later. Then I just thought, meh. So it kinda follows me.

Anyway, have a snuggle.

No FD changed it due to outcry and it being to "hard". Now just the patrolling Security Ships attack you. Which means you can just fly away.

Why are people talking about smuggling wanted passengers in the past? There's still loads of missions for them. They're as close as you'll get to being the new Robigo. The penalty of getting scanned at the station is almost certain death, so still a lot of fun.

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I think it needs an overhaul.

Speed and silent running, leaning towards smaller ships. Would appeal to new and experienced players if there was a real risk of losing your ship but a good payout.
Long and short runs, with that Robigo being chased down thing going on.

Ahhh we can dream.

Anyways, if I find any good systems I'll post.

Old folks might remember smuggling luxury goods from Tau Ceti to Van Maanen's Star in Elite 2. Vast fortunes to be made, get you to a Panther (or whatever ship you fancied) in no time. Them were the days. [yesnod]
