I miss smuggling

Right there with ya! That was some of the best fun I’ve had playing ED.

Z...

I'd been playing for about 4 mnths - discovered the forums after 3 & then a whole new world of gameplay opened up; things such as FAOFF, PvP meta &...of course, Robigo!

Boohoohoo! RIP Robigo![cry]

How does the station dont even bother with a ship which enters at full speed to the station?

I always found this really stupid. Too bad stealth mechanic is worthless.

Hi all.

As title. Couple of years ago in my cobra, I had a whale of a time boosting through the rack, emergency braking before hitting the back of the station. There was the danger of being scanned, interdicted etc.
And the pay was good!

Now, I can't remember the systems I used back then, and I can't seem to find decent paying small tonnage missions.

So. Have they disappeared, morphed into passenger missions etc ?
Any advice please.

I miss smuggling too.

But FD baby proofed the missions by removing fail on scan, and nerfed the rewards, and how often they spawn, so they're basically just another milk run cargo delivery now.

I've been campaigning to bring back real smuggling, with little success. Lol (or effort). :p

You know, I don't particularly partake on "passenger missions", because I'm not fond of playing Space Bus Driver... but I often wonder to myself as to how "fixing passenger missions" will have any relevance at this juncture, considering they have been paying out ridiculously all this time? (people always seem to use it as a "golden standard" example, after all)

It's akin to complaining about losing a war after it's already been lost. People have already made gazillions with pax missions. The damage has already been done, at this point it's only "damage control".

I do agree that other professions need to be brought to the same standards but the topic has been done to death, and then some. Suffice to say, until FD puts some actual work into fixing the entire mission system, it's going to remain thus... they need to stop playing whack-a-mole with nerfing things and give it a complete redo.

Add me to the list of people that miss smuggling. Those missions were the best. It made the Cobra mkIII, ASP, and Clipper shine for me.

400LY, with 32M worth of missions, 25 jumps with 10 interdictions, and a host of scans at the end. Those were the best days in ED for me, and nothing has come close since.

Hear hear, I feel a poll coming on. ;)

Old folks might remember smuggling luxury goods from Tau Ceti to Van Maanen's Star in Elite 2. Vast fortunes to be made, get you to a Panther (or whatever ship you fancied) in no time. Them were the days. [yesnod]
I just liked the fact you could fail, and if you failed the first mission with 20stacked missions... Proper white knuckle fun to get in and not be scanned!

All FD had to do to fix Robigo runs was fix the selling back to the black market exploit, and the "insta-dictions" where you'd exit a jump and immediately be interdicted and crash out.

Instead, they just messed up the entire mission template. Lol

I loved stacking 10-15 350ly missions to 10-15 different stations, and seeing how many I could do without being scanned, in my trusty Asp or Python.

Now these days with engineering, they'd be a lot easier (longer jumps, faster ships), so I'd happily take a 30~% pay cut on the mission payouts, or increased risk, such as a bounty for carrying illicit cargo, instead of a fine, which means security would attack you.

But the risk was really high, you could fail all your missions from a botched escape. And the reward was high to match. It was all or nothing. A full on white knuckle ride all the way.
The single most fun thing ever in ED.
And because you stacked missions, you could basically control the difficulty by stacking more or less missions.

Buuuuuut the fun police got to it.

Now you can no longer stack loads of missions, because the cargo requirements are larger.
You don't get Interdictions hardly at all, and if you do, being scanned doesn't really matter.
And the payouts are so low, that it's not even worth it anyway.

Yes I agree some of the very best missions ed had to offer were robigo runs

Couldn't agree more on this! I've been playing since just before Horizons and tried every "trade" in game. I love me some bounty hunting but long range smuggling from Robigo was by far the biggest rush for me. Knowing that you could get interdicted at any time and if you were scanned you'd lose everything was a great mechanic and justified the high payout IMO. I really hope they bring it back in some capacity.

Well the new C&P system spices things up a fair bit when it comes to smuggling. There are also plenty of low tonnage and high tonnage smuggling missions in 3.0 out in the Pleiades, looking at a a few mill per 40 tonnes, certain factions seem to only offer these smuggling missions, so you'll see 10 or more of these missions from each faction.

My Chieftain is now my primary criminal ship.

So... where would you recommend a CMDR go in the Pleiades if he wanted to investigate this line of work?

Find an Anarchy system, get Allied with the controlling faction and the odd small mission will turn up. Usually use a T6 but a Cobra III or IV works too.

Anarchy factions are offering all kinds of smuggling opportunities these days.

I thought I had some mission board screenshots, unfortunately not. Anyway - Maia point, Darnielles progress, quite a few others out there. Back in the game tomorrow, I'll post some pics. A few of these missions go to Military stations.
