I nearly died last night

Before I got to Sag A*. A couple of hops away. I've read about people landing between two suns and thought heh, I wouldn't panic. Drop out of SC, heatsink, back to SC, safety.

It didn't work out that way. There were three suns. I dropped out of supercruise just as my heatsink module failed. I was overheating in normal space. Went to SC, caught in a gravity well - at this point I was over 100% and taking damage.
I had no choice; I picked the nearest system and high-waked the hell out of there. My chaff is ruined. My cargo hatch is ruined. My heatsinks are ruined and I'm at 87% hull. I don't know how I survived, I was in hyperspace at 200% heat. That was squeaky bum time, I can tell you.

I think I found the system again on the way out.

200% isn't that bad. It's a lot but it isn't an insta kill.

Edit: Hah! Jesus! Guess you are joining us for Christmas dinner anyway!

I didn't want that to happen. Oh well. It was only a month's worth of data. I'll go out again.

Fly safe CMDR. Now that you've made it to Sag A, we want you to return safely. That Orca can make it at 87% hull, she's a great ship. Take one jump at a time, and you'll get here.

Oh no! Sorry to hear. At least you're back in the bubble.

During my first and so far only exploration trip toward the galactic core on PC somewhere near Sag A I jumped into a system that had tidally locked double binary stars. Right in the middle of all 4. Needless to say. I died. Have not gone exploring since that. Sadly I cannot remember the name of the system. Would have made for a great photo if you could get some distance away from them

I was actually really gutted when it happened. I'd made the decision not to self destruct and was going to scan every single main star, water world, ELW & water-based gas giant on the way home, and arrive some time in 2016. Then BANG. I managed to jump at 530% and arrived at the next system with 30% hull. I dropped out of supercruise, turned off every single module but the heat kept climbing, no idea why. Then the canopy burst. Then I died.

But.. wow! How well does the DBX handle? I've missed this thing.
And also, how dark is it in the bubble? :/

The DBX has to be one of my fav ships in the game. I feel sorry for you Bongo, it must be gutting and really annoying to die so close to the core :/ I havent been much further than Barnards loop myself and Im going on the distant worlds exploration project in Janurary, any tips on how not to die other than jumping into a sun of course?

I made it there last night, luckily. I'd just started the journey home.
How not to die? Put all of your faith in blind luck; you'll be alright

Sold her. She wasn't the one I went out with anyway :(

Back in my DBX :D

 Explorica nooooo!
Was lurking about watching your threads. One of my favorites, thanks for taking us along.

I'm gutted, +1 rep for your efforts and I'm going to dump a shipping unit of beer into the nearest star in her/his memory.:(

Thanks, CMDR. It's a huge loss but no ship lasts forever. At least I'm safe...!
Let's remember her not for the manner of her passing, but for the great Explorca she was. There won't be another one (that's for sure)

Sorry to hear about the unexpected end to the trip, I guess the one saving grace is that it happened just After you made it to sag A.

As gutting as it must have been, imagine what it would have been like had it happened just before you got there.

Guess you will be able to partake in some of the new ships in a few weeks after all!

That is AMAZING

The DBX with everything turned off except: 1 Heat Sink Launcher, Fuel Scoop, Life Support, FSD, Thrusters, Sensors, ADS, & Detailed Surface Scanner will run at around 14% to 16% heat when away from a star. During Fuel Scooping she will run around 60% to 65%. You can actually High Wake from inside the Corona and won't go over 95%. The DBX is an iceburg.

-Ozy

My Asp runs about 4% hotter than the DBX.

Ouch, I feel your pain.

(I played the South Park game while I got over it when it happened to me, I can recommend it as a few days worth of cooling off)
