I need help!! Xbox updated and deleted everything.

I was in the preview program. Thanks to everyone who explained exactly what happened. Now I know , elite is done downloading. Again thanks for the help.

Wait, to get things straight. If I don't opt out, resume my carefreeness of powering on XBone, ignoring any Microsoft messages and loading up Elite, nothing bad will happen?

If you are in the preview program and do not want to try out the new dashboard until it is done then yes, but if you are on the new dashboard DO NOT opt out or else it will restore your box to the factor settings.

My Xbox wasn't reset, and I'm on the shiny new dashboard. Probably better luck. :)

Heard about this and I was in the Preview. Two questions:
1. When you say deleted do you mean the games or any saved data as well?
2. I have opt out recently but still using the old dashboard can this still effect me? I haven't been asked to do an update as of yet too so never did the preview update I've been on the old dashboard ever since.

The OP has since informed us that they did indeed OPT-OUT of the Preview Program. So what happened to them was not a mistake or a bug. MS stated that anyone who opts out of the Preview Program at this stage will be pushed the PUBLIC release version of the old DB, and this process will WIPE their HDD as part of the process.

As far as the new DB...

MS announced last week that they would be moving EVERYONE in the Preview Program over to the new DB by early November. Since an update to the new DB was inevitable at this point, I decided to go ahead and Opt-In to getting the new version and last night, my machine auto-updated to the new XB1 DB. In fact, I was playing ED at the time, and the XB1 auto-quit ED and brought up the DB update screen and away it went.

So far I have had no problems running ED on the new version. Only issue I have found so far is a display bug with the MTU during a network test. It comes back as 510 instead of the 1492 my MTU setting actually is. Because of this bug, any multi-player network test will fail with the MTU Problem error. I was surprised to find this bug, which has apparently been in the last two versions of the new DB.

Since it doesn't seem to have any effect on the box or ED, I am not sweating it.

I opted out because it sucks. My xbox ran slowly ,subtitles will not show up (I watch anime people don't freak out), constant lag, several hard crashed.I simply could not take it any more. I was reporting problems faster than I can type. That's why I opted out so I can actually live my gamer life instead of typing and reporting 24/7.

Thats really odd that you have had so many problems. What are you going to do when the new version gets pushed out in the public release in a few short weeks? Sounds like your console has some serious issues going on with running these new builds. My XB1 hasn't had any problems at all with the very same software, so if I were you, I would be prepared for a possible console replacement at some point in the near future.

At least if your console once again struggles with the new DB software once it is publicly released and you will no longer be able to run the old DB any longer. It happens... Sometimes a new operating system or major change to an operating system can reveal hardware issues with a computer that previously ran fine, but had some underlying hardware problems. Problems that did not manifest themselves until the hardware was called upon to run software that stressed these weak components.

My preview new dash was a tad buggy but last update fixed it very nice indeed. I did opt in as it's coming regardless.
Also got a 2tb hard drive for 50gbp just in case.
Overall very happy with the update.
Guys just opt in and you won't go wrong.

This is correct I have the new dashboard since it was released for preview mode and it had a very large amount of problems however lately she has been fixed. I never had problems with gaming online the only problem I experience was the lag and some miss functions with the Guide button. The reason you did not get subtitles for your anime which word me at the time as well since I also watch anime was because the subtitles whats it on default no in the settings which I just changed and I got my subtitles back on Hulu Plus. The new dashboard is completely different from the original but I do love it a lot more.

I have already told friends I'm in the preview program and the new experience is filled with bugs to the point restoring to factory defaults was a must after it no more bugs but this might need to b done when the update launches next month
