Personally I'm Ok with the way transfers work. They are custom and custom is expensive. But they don't really solve the problem to get from the bubble to the new frontier without grinding. And if you do that a couple of times it's summer 2017. Regular transfers are just too expensive and jumping back and forth is just not worth it.
Jump gates would solve that problem. And they would also solve some plot problems. How exactly is the new frontier supportable again? These gates should have heavy requirements. A station like Jaques would be required to build them and they should be limited to systems where energy demands can be met. I.e. neutron stars or black holes. That would limit your insta-jump capabilities to rough approximations. You have to get to a gate and you have to get from there to your destination.
If you want to use one of them it costs credits. But it's a relatively low price depending on distance and size of ship as it is not a custom transfer but a regular travel route.
The problem isn't traveling the 200 to 300Ly from Sol or Achenar to HIP 63835. If you really don't wan't to, pay the transfer bill and stop ing about the costs. The problem is to get from Sol or Achenar to Jaques. I really don't care if I have to jump 600Ly altogether to get from where I am to where I want to be. And if I do that can be fixed by transfers. But literally spending days of uneventful jumping just to get from A to B is not exactly something a lot of players would do on a regular basis.
