Powerplay I think any future Powerplay characters need to be more racially diverse

Why? Would it change the way you play the game?

No, but it doesn't add anything to the game it doesn't already have either. Hear enough about this in real life as it is. Trying to play a game to get away from real world politics and I don't need delicate and misguided racial sensibilities invading it when it's not necessary at all. Racial and cultural identity is already present in the game, as has been explained in this thread and the other, and we don't need some movement on the forums calling for forced and immediate diversity changes.

Really? This is what you think about in a video game? This is what you want addressed? How about diversity for colors for the VETTE and CUTTER? Who will be the voice for the underrepresented Cutters and Vettes in the Verse?

There is no piracy faction in powerplay, Delaine is a slaver.

I find it ironic that an albino is leading up the slave power.

Also, there is plenty of diversity as noted previously in this thread.

Actually, not that much of an ironic state of things or out of place.

The slavery occurring in colonialism was, in the majority, not by the gun, but by trade. Their own kings would sell their people with their blessing.

It's just many years of the white boogeyman story being told around. Go back a little less than a century and the black communities still remembered that. But that was before they gave up the Blues for hanging wall clocks around their necks.

But going deeper into that is neither for here or there. ;)

Anyway, the cast is quite fine. It's just missing someone of pure African descend. No big deal.If a group of people think that it's that important, then I'd urge them to start working on winning the next dangerous games instead of complaining here, because it doesn't seem like there will be non-player driven powers from now on. So if another group wins and wants their leader to be white, it will be white.

Apart from Li Yong-Rui, the leaders of the galaxy are all Caucasian, including Grom in 2.2.

[downcast]

ARCHON looks like a Albino man
FELICIA she's a bit dark

Blacks are so because of the environment, more races are mixed more the skin becomes light, plus leaving in a environment with artificial Light is already nice to see people with slightly dark skin.

IMHO

I thought all people were the same? Surely we can all represent each other? Unless it only goes one way (like many things on this subject).

Either way look at the genetic reasons for darker skin, it's for protection from the sun is it not? In the future how many people will live out exposed in extreme sunlight all the time? As what happened on earth with people migrating north to more temperate and pleasant climes lost the genetic trait of darker skin as it was unneeded. In the future I'd imagine most people will live on Planets and areas that are more temperate and pleasant...why would someone live in a hot region and out in the sun a lot? Those regions will probably be for hoildays and will have A/C and plenty of shade.

Grom makes it 7-4 to the boys. Maybe if they go for a twelfth they could make use of some strong non-caucasian female role models as inspiration?

Rosa Parks for authenticity, Grace Jones for striking appearance, Dame Kelly Holmes for popular appeal? There are many, many more out there and everyone will have an opinion, I would hope :)

Of course it adds something, diversity.

Unless it negatively affects gameplay what's the problem? That you don't like the idea?

The OP doesn't ask for anything forced or immediate, just that future choices take this suggestion into account.

Powers are no longer added by FD themselves, they are inserted from groups that win the ascension games. Yuri Grom is not a character that was created by FD.

And yes, if I was an artist who has spent any amount of time creating a character and FD came back to me and told me "You know, that's some awesome art right there, but we're going to turn your character black because we've had complaints and we have to appease the crowd.", I'd be pretty mad about it. And that would quite a negative effect indeed.

If people are so hell bent on enforcing diversity, then they should win the next games and insert their diversity token leader. And noone will object.

Plus, the game is FILLED with people of all colours. From crew members to faction representatives. Complaining about a data sample of 11 people is extremely silly. Especially when even that data sample is quite diverse on its own when taking in account Patreus, LYR, Delaine, Winters and Antal.

My intent is NOT to offend you OP, or any of the readers. My intent is to kindly try to inform you that when you make statements like you did without really thinking it through, you make yourself an island. It sounds harmless, but when you whine about issues to the public in general about something you have no control over, like this game that was created by others who envisioned it differently than your vision of how it should be in a 'POLITICALY CORRECT' format, your literally not going to get far. Let me also say that I am NOT an Grammar expert, so for those who go ballistic over run on sentences, take a puff from your inhaler and just chill out. I am not a perfect PC person, so I am most likely going to offend someone, I apologize in advance. (See how far off topic with disclaimers someone has to go through to TRY and make everyone happy? And it isn't going to perfect, there will undoubtedly be SOMEONE who gets their feelings hurt, but I did at least try.......for those who I STILL haven't made happy,....take another puff from an inhaler.) Now that that's all taken care of, I would caution you about opening a can of worms, or a door of ENDLESS changes the creator has to make to make EVERYONE else happy. Next someone will write in saying something like: Hey, while your at it making the OP's changes, why don't you just go full blown liberal and implement "Gender Neutral" Bathrooms in the Star Ports, "Why does there have to be SLAVERY", Why don't you use "Gender Neutral" Names for the leaders, another person wants to see "SPECIES Neutral" characters like in the 'Guardians of the Galaxy', and lets not forget those who get butt hurt and want in the characters Bio to know who is "Vegan", and/or "Vegetarian", or "why isn't there a leader under the age of 18?" ....and......and........before long we have a game that is so Saturday morning cartoonish, and Politically Correct, that it isn't Elite Dangerous anymore, ......it's 'MY LITTLE PONY IN SPACE'. So, PLEASE just stop with the Political Correctness correcting and lets just play the game. The game IS WHAT IT IS !!!!!! Play it, or play it not if it doesn't meet your social suitability. If there is a BUG in the game, feel free to ask for a change, but when it comes to SOCIAL PREFERENCE CHANGES......you can't win, because everybody is too diverse to make happy.....just agree to disagree, shoot them down in ANARCHY SPACE and take another puff from the inhaler with a smile on your face !!! [wacky]

How about a certain red head for some gender balance?

Remember this face.

The Powers are diverse already.

Edmund Mahon = maybe half Asian and Caucasian
Li Yong-Rui = East Asian
Pranav Antal = very light skinned Indian or mixed
Denton Patreus = Black, latino or mixed
Felicia Winters = black or mixed

Technically, in the future we would all be the same colour anyway due to thousands of years of ethnic mixing.

That's only the case if xenophobic countries like China let in millions of non Asian looking people and that mixing happens on a massive scale. So far China and other Asian countries are still very selective with immigration.

I agree.

Adding token characters of color is stupid and racist.

Why would they be token characters of colour?
Are the current characters token Caucasian characters too?

I think it would be great to see a diverse mix of powers.

I don't know what skin tones people would have in the 3300's. Especially the years some generations spent in space before Faster Than Light travel.

For the present though, I think this is an interesting take on it:
