I think it is time to become Dangerous.

Preferably learning how to run this Cobra. I should point out that my tactics for PvP vs PvE are completely different. PvP, I am 100% an evader. I don't even deploy weapons. PvE, however, and I'm trying to teach myself how to use my speed as a weapon.

The cobra is actually a decent railboat. If you can use your speed to maintain distance and take advantage of long range (5km plus) micro gimballing of the railguns, you'll be able to take anything out virtually risk free.

My Cobra is rather well engineered now. Top tier engines, really good FSD, crazy wide scanners, decent range FSDI. The lasers are good. Shields are okay... Speed is my defence. Going to work on engineering the missiles soon.

I think it's time to improve my combat ranking. Guys, any tips? I only hit novice yesterday!

Don't play iron man mode!

Kill everything.

Noted. I'm docked at Jameson. With that said, would Guardian Gauss Cannons do the trick? I unlocked them just now.

High resource extraction site will give you the fastest and safest ranking, plus the most money. I can't believe that people are suggesting Haz RES and CNBs for a Cobra. The only problem with high RES is that it's too easy.

only if those ships destroyed had a combat rank high enough compared to the player. I have forgotten at what difference the kill doesn't count towards the combat rank anymore - it's a long time since I cared about such things.

Actually, that's not true anymore. You get a very small increase even for very low ranking ships, and in fact, you even get a very small increase for destroying skimmers! Most of the time it's not noticeable, but I have seen my combat rank increase when the only things I've destroyed in recent playtime have been skimmers. I'm Deadly combat rank.

However, it is true that the fastest way to increase combat rank is to destroy ships that are a higher rank than yourself, and this chart gives an idea of how many combat experience points you get based upon your rank and the ship you destroy.
