I think it's about time we had a fuel management tutorial added to the game tutorials!

Well maybe tutorials are part of the problem and making people learn from their mistakes and possibly having to start planning ahead after the experience?

It's a game man!! Cut people some slack, empathy and sympathy are two of humanities greatest traits and lack of same are two of humanities worst traits.

I didn't read the manual, or play the tutorial to know that running out of fuel is a bad thing. :p

Maybe some of these people don't own cars? I dunno. Maybe with all the new stuff to learn, it's easy to miss the fuel guage...?

In any case. A quick tutorial on scooping is all you need, complete with the KGB FOAM tip.

I've never ran out of fuel, came close once, when attempting to meet a buddy in my FDL, before Engineers, and I jumped through 4 non-scoopable stars in a row because I wasn't paying attention at the time. The last jump landed me in another non scoopable star, but it was just 2ly from a scoopable one, and I got in on reserves. Phew!

Tangential to this discussion, it would be nice to have a variable setting for a low fuel warning. I haven't run out of gas, but it would be nice to have something more prominent when a low fuel condition does arise. Our jets have a big fat LOW FUEL on the HUD when they go below a pre-determined bingo fuel value. Elite has a small bar hiding in the periphery. Being adjustable means that people who don't want the warning can set it to 0 and never have to deal with it.

Jerry has been telling me how many calls to the fuel rats they have been recieving since the PS4 launch. It's a truly absurd number! Surely this is basic game mechanics and should be taught along with the basic game tutorials that are available in game!

Can this please be added to save a lot of people, a lot of wasted time and hopefully reduce the number of tools calling the fuel rats to get them out of a jam... [yesnod]

Is this a play on words? Jerry .... fuel can ..... :p

Out of curiousity did anyone do the tutorials in the PC version?

Personally I didn't as the "initial learning" is part of the fun and experience - least to me.
Course as an old 85'er I guess I at least had some idea of how things were supposed to go.

I've played through most of them...

The basics are simple. Really, really, really simple:

1. Your ship needs fuel.
2. Supercruise, hyperspace jumps, and modules consume fuel. Hyperspace jumps use the most.
3. Refuel either at a station or with a fuel scoop. If you don't, your fuel will eventually run out.
4. Ascertain what systems are essential to your ship's role. Turning off non-essential modules conserves fuel.
5. Look at your fuel gauge and how much it uses per jump. Calculate risk accordingly.

Just remember, if you lose a ship because of lack of fuel, you are solely responsible, not FD. :)

IDK, I'm ambivalent on this one. I'm all for good explanations where required, but a super-basic concept like "vehicle need gas" seems like it should not require much explanation. I really don't buy into any major detrimental effects to the game at large caused by players frustrated at what is almost next to "turn on game" in complexity. That playerset is likely to not survive much else in this game if refueling is turning their heads out.

Lol
