Chiefly for reporting / blocking scenarios. But would also be handy for friend requests!
It's all too easy to get caught up in the moment - especially if you're trying to save your ship and / or cargo! - and miss out on noting someone's CMDR name. Even then, long / difficult to remember names make logging a complaint or sending a friend request difficult. Additionally, if you're on a Rift, making notes isn't very practical.
So, how about an extra tab on the friends list screen for 'recently met players'? Any CMDR names you've scanned in the current play session could be listed there. The list could be wiped once you log out.
