I thought the stars looked better in VR today…

To any fellow users with Quest 2 HMDs - the latest software update to v33 has introduced a new image sharpening thing when using Link / AirLink, and it doesn’t have any performance impact:

“Link and Air Link Visual Improvements
  • Next time you use Link or Air Link with your headset, you may notice improved image quality and text clarity thanks to Link Sharpening. Link Sharpening makes images crisper, fine details clearer, and text more clear and easy to read.”
When I was playing EDO earlier today (before reading the release notes) I thought the night sky looked a bit crisper and wondered if my eyes were suddenly getting younger 😅 Apparently you can toggle the feature while in-game, so I’ll be having a mess with it next play session. I’m not sure the results will show on secondary monitor screenshots, but I’ll post again with any further observations.

You can toggle the new image sharpening using the Oculus Debug Tool (it defaults to Auto but can be set to either Enable or Disable) and with Elite the effect is very subtle, but there is a slight increase in image quality.

Mainly the skybox looks a teeny-tiny bit better to me, though I could see a difference sat in the main-menu hangar when concentrating on straight edges. It’s a very minor increase, but it’s free and there’s no performance hit so that’s cool 😁
