I want to program my on-board computer; aka realistic modding API

I know that supposedly modding for ED is not a likelihood, but it might be entertaining to have an onboard scripting language that you could use to extend the galaxy map, log commodities, etc. etc.

A console-style interface with a basic scripting language (Lua, or even some new Elite-specific language) is what I'm envisioning.

Give it the ability to intercept some basic in-game data like scanned ship owner/cargo/type/bounty, commodity market data, etc. and then parse/present the data using the existing in-game interfaces like galaxy map, chat/information window, and the radar.

It'd be a neat way to add a pseudo-modding-api.

Seems like an interesting idea. I would love to be able to program my on-board computer. Nothing completely OP, like modifying fire rate or actual physical parts of the ship, just something like making it greet you, automatically setting it to fastest routes and reminding when to fuel scoop. Would also be cool to change the colours of specific things and make key binds for things in the panels. Panel editing (add buttons, labels, images etc.) would be interesting and maybe even adding panels.

I'd love some way to mod the UI a bit. It doesn't have to be something that will allow game breaking mods, just the ability to slightly alter how the UI looks.
