I was wrong. Relogging is officially supported game mechanic.

Usually I can ignore it and just play the game, because I'm usually not in a hurry
But then we have something like current CG, where you're supposed to gather guardian artifacts.
In SRV.
2 units at time.
And after driving around and clearing the site I'm supposed to fly to another one? Or just jump to SC and come back?

Or maybe simply pickup two artefacts, transfer them to my ship and relog? Note that out of those options relogging is fastest and least boring one.

The problem is that when we have campetitive goals, especially when there's some unique prize, noone is going to do it in inefficient way if they wish to have a chance to get the prize. And since there's no penalty for using relogging (making picked up items disappear forever, or at least have some spawn timer - therefore limiting usefullness of relogging) - it looks like legit "techinque" to use to be competitive in what is official game event.

Can we please have an official stream with CMs showing us how it's done?

Elite: Relogski

Relocg (spelled reloksch, sounds hungary'sh) = noun
intended community gameplay in Elite Dangerous
meaning: gather as much stuff as possible in the fastest and most dull gameplay possible, using the menu log to repopulate certain game elements

I haven’t really looked at this one. Im of course 6000LY away with a bunch of Guadian junk ive been carrying around in my FC just in case when they announce this 😡. But I suspect they have no other mechanic than the same tiers they all have. So here again we have game assets that are limited in qty to collect in an instance being used in a CG leaving no other choice than to relog to gather them.

I don’t see another way to understand it. Just like that engineering data driven event. It demanded farming. There was no other way.

I just use my Viper IV to pick the artifacts off the ground directly. Ten at the ancient ruin and another six at the Guardian site then back to the Megaships. Then I hop into the asteroid station and maybe do some salvaging or fetch missions if they have material to offer that I want for a change of pace. Then I can do repeat runs, if I feel like it.

Yeah, given I'm not interested in that gameplay and getting the goods any other way simply wouldn't have got anywhere quickly, I decided it wasn't for me. I do have 50 or so exceptionally high priced Guardian items for sale from my FC, though. :D

The issue is that re-logging isn't necessarily officially supported but because it's there and the easy way out, people use it. Speaking as one who has used relogging, btw.
Usually that's not really a problem, because if you don't want to, you don't have to relog (your game, your rules) - but with this kind of official, competitive and time sensitive event if some people use this "technique", then you either play by their rules, or forget about it, because you'll never catch them. And since there's no penalty for relogging of any kind - only advantages - I just see it as oficially allowed (if not designed) way to play.

FD have confirmed that re-logging is allowed, there are no issues in that regard. I do relog on occasion if I want to unlock something in particular. Or if I am in the vicinity of Dav's Hope, as I both enjoy the circuit and appreciate the materials. :) But requiring this for a CG doesn't seem like good gameplay.

I always treated relogging as a "safety valve" of sorts. Meaning that if someone is in a hurry, he can use it as a shortcut to get stuff he needs - it doesn't really affect anyone else.
But with event like this CG it's no longer a case, because if someone does it - everyone is affected and there's snowball effect. Everyone is relogging to keep up.
So, yeah - really poor choice for a CG.

To be fair, players are partly responsible. When people where doing Logoffski, they were told it was wrong, an exploit, should be nerfed.... instead of talking about the underlying issue that pushed people to do that.

When I needed around 75 of some rare scan to unlock the 3 guardians fighters, and mentioned about how bad the mechanic/grind was, I was told that it's "perfectly fine to not relog", and how I should have wandered around the galaxy for ages, scanning a few hundred of monoliths scattered around. And in the event I missed ruins, I could always go and find them myself.

So yeah, to anyone who told me that : feel free to run around and find the item in ruins. If you are out of ruins, you can always use your DSS and find them yourself, they are all in the same area of space. You can perfectly do it without reloging.
Remember that you don't have to grind the CG. You can skip it.

But your example is different - you have all the time in the world to gather those obelisk data. You can actually play the game, travel around and gather them, doing other things to spice things up - even if it takes you much longer. It's your choice how you'll do it.
With this kind of CG - you don't have the luxury of taking your time - it's time sensitive and competitive, so relogging is your only realistic option if you want to participate. That's huge difference there.

"My Game!" said any game designer worth their salt.

It's an obviously hyperbolic statement, but sweet jebus and the holey Ghast - this is awful.
