I would like a first person Eve Online.

Also, in EVE everything everyone does matters. You can't even build a ship without someone mining the ores first.

In ED nothing anyone does matters.

Not saying one is better than the other, both games have different focuses, but there are a lot more profound differences between the two games than one being first person and the other third person.
 
Eve Online is an RTS game with players replacing a lot of the NPC/AI roles in a fairly small arena and clearly defined choke points.

Elite Dangerous is a first person space/flight sim/game in a vast open galaxy, with potential to open up vastly more area.

Much like Space Legs, adding a largely player controlled RTS on top of Elite Dangerous is like adding a whole new game to it and not something that could happen very quickly (if at all, as the back end platform on Eve is large and complex). I'm sure over time you could see some RTS elements introduced, but I doubt FDev would want to fundamentally change their current balance and direction of feature development, which is more based around the first person real time experience.

Not sure if serious but... nope. In EVE you can build stuff, you can own stuff, you can trade with players, you can craft, you can engage in deep exploration mechanics... no not even close OP. I truly wish Elite would do that but its far far away from all this yet.

In eve you can spend lots of real cash; just to be there. You can spend lots of Isk on skills and even more on ships and ship parts. You can spend a heap of time training those skills and building your ship, just the way you like it. Make something special and unique, that may even have an edge and then over night. The developers can sneak into you hanger and strip out your ship; remove your advantages and turn it into scrap. All in the name of 'Balance'.
 
I've never played Eve because it seemed too time-consuming. I rarely play ED now because it's too time-consuming.

It seems that devs today just try to create games that are intended to consume your entire life.
 
Every time Eve is mentioned on the ED forum a 'somebody is wrong on the internet' alarm goes off somewhere and people gather to jump down your throat. How very dare poor OP say that ED is as good as perfect Eve...

Ironically, Eve was originally inspired by Elite built for an earlier internet age in the absence of a good Elite successor, in order for it to synchronise that kind of game-play online it's deliberately not first person. You can do all kinds of things with command and control game-play because it's not a complete real time synchronised experience for each pilot, they aren't dodging weapons fire by making split second control decisions. It's essentially stats being passed between clients not simulation. If you expect any developer, CCP or Frontier to evolve a real time simulation the same way your fresh out of luck and probably not aware of the limitations of your computers network connection the same way you are, perhaps, about your GPU.

The reason a true first person EvE does not exist is still the same reason that EvE wasn't made as a first person sim in the first instance.

Elite Dangerous may not be a true first person Eve but Op is perfectly entitled to enjoy it as an alternative first person game inspired by the same thing as Eve (the original Elite)

I liked playing Eve, in spite of the cash costs. As a new player it was a bit of a task, but I stayed out of the danger zones and made a profit out of basically everything. The player trading was a bit farcical and the local chat windows were insane, but generally I had fun. The thing I hated was the way the developers, obsession with balancing things every five minutes. I built a Rattlesnake, with a 250km missile range and 180km drone range; I could circle bigger ships and pound them to death. Then one day I logged on and my drone bay was a quarter of it size and I lost a weapon slot. 2 years of specialist training, down the toilet. I quit on the spot, sold the account to a friend and a couple of months later; found Elite. :D

Yes, Elite, E2:Frontier & E3:FFE I'd agree were a significant inspiration for games like EvE, the X-games, Starlancer & Freelancer, which tried to make a space setting more involved than just fighters and rts fleets, filing the lull in the 2000's when there were no more Elite games for a long time. The X-games were severely limited in scope but tried to make up for it with good visuals, and a multi-system "ant-hill"-like player influenced economy.

Still, I'd think it's a long way to go for game dev tech to accommodate first person view with all the fidelity and simulation quality expected while still having hundreds to thousands of concurrent players or even complex npcs in the same general instance.
