Icon Under Enemy Ship on HUD?

I've been away from Elite for a while and just recently came back to check out Engineers. One thing I've noticed is when you have a ship targeted there are icons that occasionally show up beneath it on the HUD. I've boxed them in blue on the picture below. Is that some kind of ship status?

Think about what weapons; you are using. I believe it represents a type of fire power.

You're welcome! Someone shared it on reddit and I saved, I'm not sure where it comes from but I think its a screenshot of a video from Frontier.

Great! it's along time I've been puzzled with the () icon on my ship hologram. The only question is where did this reference come from? Can not find it anywhere else.
