I’d like more commanders in the Open

OK, in my opinion.

PP got ruined coz the YT vids say wait 27 days then spend 7.5m buying vouchers.

The 'influencers' killed PP like they have killed a lot of gameplay because they forget its gameplay and try and make people do what they do, which is shortcut the game and get to they mythical 'end game'. Theyre already killing FCs because they want cash cows.

Controversial huh?

A lot of people watch the vids as 'how to guides' and just copy it and they spread the word. How many people contribute weekly to the Power? Id hazard a guess not many, I try to do weekly combat for vouchers for whichever Power Im currently with but it is getting stale after 4 months and also means I cant travel too far away...and spend a lot of time finding the right targets.....and then the one player who does attack me is my own side! That was the funniest bit, if I fought back I lost vouchers so I couldn't/wouldn't engage.

The divide between PvP and PvE is not absolute. There are some dedicated PvP ( lawful and unlawful) and PvE Commanders trying to create events that mutually benefit everyone in Open. It's not easy and requires creativity, careful diplomacy and risk taking. Many PvPers understand the concerns of PvEers and respect the PvE playstyle.

Just saying not all gankers are alike.

:)

Oh you don’t have to think it up. There’s no demand for it. Why would anyone go through the trouble of asking for an escort when they can just switch modes? The game eliminates that pathway, that potential play style, from happening organically because it offers ways to entirely circumnavigate the need for it. Therefore people do. Just like Borann. It offers a fast way to progress through the ships, so rather than the way they may actually prefer, they take the easy way.
It’s a flaw in game design, not players.

It's a flaw in your understanding of the game. This is the key: You can only expect to play along side those that play like you. There is no reason you need uninterested parties, to get your pew on. It's a flaw in how you perceive the game. Because you focus on one thing, your pew. Learn to enjoy the game with the population you most enjoy.

Get some of your space buddies, draw straws for who's the bait, and wing up. This is a game. It's intended to entertain, it's not a test of someone's fortitude. No one owes anyone their time. Take responsibility for yourself, and play the game you want. You knew what you were buying, and if you didn't, that's on you.

Oh it happens. Doesn’t mean I can’t call out things in the game that need improvement. Nor does anything invalidate that criticism of the game. When you buy a game or any other product you are not required to take only what you’re given and not have any feedback when you realize there are flaws.

Tried that with a novel, they wouldnt change the ending.

Tried it with food, they wouldnt change the recipe just because I didn't like it and they told me they had other products in the same range that suited different tastes so why didnt I try them instead?

Tried it with an album, apparently its the 'songwriters pregorative' what they write and sing, its my choice whether to keep listening.

Tried it with a movie, apparently I have to direct my own if I want something different.

You see the problem with absolutes? They weaken your point.

No broblems here. I was complaining about you trying to define what this conversation is about. Now that we're past that, rave on!

You know... You can do escort missions right now. Join a wing with an interested trader and receive payment automatically. (I'm not sure you can do the same with mining, but you should) That is the mechanism FD have given us. Make it work.
Yeah, Robert already suggested that earlier today so I just gave it a shot for a little bit a few hours ago. First ran into the problem that despite my all my PvP experience, no one knows who the funk I am and since I'm fairly new to PC no one believes that a pilot with only a competent combat rank can actually protect them.
Escorted one guy though but the whole thing was rather uneventful.
This mechanic definitely works for miners but still changes nothing for players try to go to Deciat. 🤷‍♂️

Still, I'm finally playing as a legit mercenary which is g awesome.

Anyone need an escort or a player assassinated? This merc is officially open for business.

Gotta take a second to call you out on this little contradiction here.
So you can play the game any way you want as long as it's the way others want you to play it?

You said "You knew what you were buying, and if you didn't, that's on you". So somehow that applies to gankers and pvpers but not to those who play in open then complain about getting killed by another player?

Not sure how you can say these things and then turn around and argue so strongly against gankers.

You're reading things into my statement. I do advocate that if someone is playing in open, they have to accept what ever happens. In the end I call on everyone to find the environment they are interested in, and play, I also remind anyone who will listen than you can always change your mind. What mode you're in is as changeable as what ship you are in. We PvErs are not a block limited with a hive-mind. You can't try that trickery on me.

Been there, done that. Sometimes I do, but it's only a matter of time when I start to ask myself: why? Once you know how, avoiding PvP in Open is as easy as to push the solo button. Which in the end means even less trouble. The whole "thrill" wears off over the years and then feels more and more like something I'm imagining. Might make sense for a more experienced beginner, but for someone who has no interest in PvPew, not really.
I respect PvPers, but the way I avoid them in Open I would nothing but a nuisance to them (as they are to me). And I don't want to be disrespectful.

I wish we could turn back the clock and have FD release their multi-player version of this game as a completely separate game. With their own forum. ;)

But then we'd not have all the entertaining sound bites that I enjoy reading with my morning coffee. Trade offs...
