Ideal Planet Zoo 2 Roster

An ideal roster for me depends entirely on how Frontier handles current & new mechanics in a potential PZ2.

If current exhibit species aren’t freed from the box then I’ll pass on pushing for more small species, though I greatly want them. If flying species are kept in walkthrough boxes, I’ll pass on pushing for those too. Same goes for fully aquatic species if they are relegated to pre-defined/plop-down tanks like JWE has. And this is coming from someone who mainly wants animals that’d likely fit into the above categories. What separates Frontier’s Planet games from their predecessors (Tycoon series, etc.) is their ever-expanding customization/free-build options. Expanding these type of features for all species in PZ2 is what I’d want most.

My gut feeling is that exhibits will still be boxes, but they'll either make them modular or just give us more options in shape, size, and interior decoration (not necessarily "free build" but simply more choices to make, say, one desert box look different from another).

In a perfect world every species would have a completely unique interior design but I don't see that happening.

I really couldn't guess what they plan to do with birds. Mixed-species aviaries are kind of a hallmark and that just doesn't work with the exhibit model (no, the butterflies don't count). At the same time, I can't imagine a means by which they implement aviaries with the same level of freedom we have to build habitats. They won't make them piece-by-piece constructable (except for perhaps a null option) because they know that not everyone enjoys intricate, tricky builds. There has to be an option present for people who don't want to build their own roof, for example.

The JWE2/3 aviary system would work for this, but it runs into the problem of every aviary being too similar to its neighbour. And also, there would need to be a way to place regular animals into these aviaries, too, since proper 'covered habitats' have been something people have wanted for a while now as well, for species like primates or the clouded leopard.

I'm not really concerned with aquaria so I won't bother speculating on that.

I feel like trying to do modular building for something like a tarantula or a cockroach would be very unfun faster than people might expect. The current system is a fine compromise IMO, though more size options (ex. 1x1x1, 2x2x2, 5x5x5) would add some much-needed versatility. Also an option to change the glass to mesh or wires so species like the Hermann's tortoise are in a less stressful setting (thought this wouldn't be realistic for the semi-aquatics like terrapins and axolotls)
