Ideas for the game

I know this is PROBABLY gonna get a lot of negative comments, but i wanna voice my idea anyway.

This idea stems from planetside 2, srv based, base buliding.

Yes i know you guys are giving people bases in colonia. But wouldnt it be nice, with all the planets out there, to have a base that you can build on a planet and a system and start a new colony? Wouldnt it be nice to have a base that could be grown, attacked, defended? Wouldnt it be nice to see the creativity of the players that inhabit your game?

I think that it would be a nice addition.

To add to the base building concept, frontier can make it to where the bases are actually a combination of the landable planet stations AND the research facilities on the planets. They can change the intel packages to datacores that take up 1 storage space *cause srv*. Buy buying or creating the data cores you can upgrade your base to include different features. Say for example you wanted to put a refuling/reparing base out on the neutron highway, you'd get the materials you need and start building, you need to get a Repair Facility Data Core to enable your base to be able to build a repair facility and you'll need a Fuel Depot Data Core to be able to build a fuel depot to allow for refuling (the data cores would be stored in a shielded base building plan that you have access too without having to do anything but gather materials on a planet like iron or something, call it the data core assembly rig or data core storage facility, it comes with its own power generator that you cant change the position of, the shield prevents anyone but people that have access to the base/high enough privelages with the faction that owns it) It would work with other features you want to add to your base.

ON TOP OF THAT, they can add an entirely new element to the bases on the planets (not the landable ones) Instead of just going there and killing things to scan a series of data points to get an intel packag that doesnt tell you anything, you can make it to where a few tier 3 security bases hold information that can royally screw up the powerplay factions by revealing secerets that they have. Like say for example the federation keeping tabs on its own citizens which can cause an uprising in the federal ranks, or that the empire has a gulag somewhere out in space like in quince or something that they hold secret that can cause an uprising of the citizens all throughout the empire space on different planets that want to put an end to the reign of torval for queen or something like that, or even further the alien story. Theres soooooo much that can be done with this that it just gives me shivers.

I just copied and pasted this from the forum that i made a couple days ago in general.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the game going the path of base building. Anyway, there's so many things that are higher priority before Frontier even explores that option.

Depends on how such a thing were to be implemented though, I guess. A personal small outpost that no-one else can see or access would be good but perhaps somewhat immersion breaking. Then again, once you go down the path of bases visible to all, perhaps even attackable, destroyable or capturable.......and by extension guilds owning such assets......well, the game stops being Elite in my opinion and goes down a path of player/guild conflict for assests and territory that I don't believe Elite needs. It might not go that far of course, but it means the idea becomes too contentious for my liking.

I'd prefer the idea of player (even guild) ownership of facilities within pre-existing NPC-owned stations and bases, such as hangars, apartments, guildhalls. That would even enable multiple players or groups to hold assets even in the same station and at the same time mitigate against what many of us consider to be less desirable gameplay surrounding base ownership. That said, being able to establish your own mining outpost on a planet would be pretty cool too, so it's not a simple question for Frontier to resolve.

Nothing inherently wrong with the idea of bases though, it's just a matter of how it's implemented, whether that implementation is actually counter-productive for a lot of people, and whether it is compatible/consistent with what many if us consider to be an Elite game (as opposed to other space game variations).

This is the same topic that was at the top of the suggestions list last night if I recall correctly. There are multiple suggestions of this.

But, my vote is like JosiahD said. Me making a personal base I can park my own ships at, set up some AI skimmers and turrets for defense against NPC; YES! Maximum benefit would be refuelling or possibly very slow working mining rigs (auto-miners as in FFE). When we get space-legs it would be cool sometimes to walk around our own base, see the trophy room that David Braben mentioned early days, etc. Maybe even man a turret against NPC attackers. At the most we could have friends visit that were in the same instance or winged up. That would be cool.

At no time could base ownership be in question and the buildings would have to be as indestructible as any NPC building is today.

I think a major issue with having player owned cities and space stations in a real-time, twitch game is that it just would not work due to the amount of data FD would have to both store and also transmit to players as things changed. Even the new Dual Universe "most advanced ever shared and moddable environment network setup ever" developers have already said their game will not be real-time twitch, but only that they will try to keep things as close to real-time as possible. 1,000 players in close proximity all building stuff and tearing up terrain at the same time? Get ready for some serious lag/ rubber-banding and similar issues.

The data transmission needs of schemes like this should not be underestimated. It is also not what the game was designed for from the start, meaning a lot of re-engineering effort to move away from the twitch-based dogfights we are having today.

Ok so out of the 2 people that responded, i notice a trend. How much work F-Dev has to put into it, we are not talking about that. It is their game, they can do anything they want with it. They CREATED the game, they can add it to the game as well. yes there is work involved just like with everything, sorry but that argument as to why this shouldnt be in the game is about as impactful as a mosquito bite. And the notion that there are other things that F-Dev need to prioritize, i never said there isnt, i never said that they should prioritize this. People need to stop using that excuse to stop something interesting from being talked about. Sorry

No need to be sorry! Folks just chime in on forums about their thoughts. I've had numerous suggestions of my own shot down and many just ignored by everyone! and as you said you expected negative comments... [yesnod]

I think the idea keeps coming up and is indeed interesting. I am sure beyond doubt that FD have had robust internal discussions about it.

One of my ideas there is zero chance of FD taking up anytime soon; is a more traditional "lead me by the nose, storyline and cut-scene" mini-adventure based on ED. But I still hold out hope that it is a longer-term vision for the Elite franchise.

Same! I mean, this is a long term vision, doesnt mean it shouldnt be talked about! just like with your ideas
