Idiot authority vessels keep flying into my gunsights when I try to kill wanted ships

Simple - HOLD YOUR FIRE.

If you were really in a warzone, you wouldn't keep firing when your squadmates enter the line of fire, right?
Just be careful out there - this game really isn't about just keeping your finger on the trigger

In a warzone I would trust my squadmates wouldn't be dumb enough to sprint full-speed between me and my target when I already engaged him at a distance less than 1km. This is what NPCs are doing in Elite though.

Faction pilots aren't very well trained, they are arrogant and careless.

You however are a cut above them and a member of The Elite Federation of Pilots - ) learn to deal with their incompetence....

Take your finger off the trigger.

Idiot authority vessel: 'Stop firing at me you bloody goose, can't you see I'm trying to do my job?!'

I think this is actually going to be changed which in my view is a shame. From the NPC's point of view, you could be there to help the wanted NPC they're targetting.

Are you serious? I am battling this wanted pirate getting his hull down to 40%. Enters the Authority Vessels. While they approach they see me attacking the pirate and his hull down to 40%. They even scan my ship and find out I am not wanted and no bounty. Does it really seem probable to you that the authority vessels would think I was trying to kill them if I hit them with a single laser shot (that takes shield down from 100% to 98%, not causing any damage since shields regenerate)when it only happened because he/she swooped in the line of fire between me and the pirate I am firing at?

Its so they dont steal important kills. How mad would you be if a Police Eagle got the last shot in on your Elite Anaconda mark making you lose 200k Creds.

Could be an easy fix if they recorded who did the most damage, with some percentage bounty share, 40% dmg get 40% bounty perhaps, or some other clever formula. It kind of reminds me of the old quarrel about who downed Von Richthofen...

With 'unreasonable man' George Bernard Shaw clearly meant System Authority Vessels. Another way to put it:
if( sysAuthVes.priorityDestroyingPlayerWhoAccidentallyHitPoliceShipInLineOfFireCausingNoActualDmgDuringHuntForBinLaden > sysAuthVes.priorityKillingBinLaden ){ cop.mentalStat = maniacal; }

I swear to God if you ever use variables like that in code I have to maintain I will hunt you down like a mangy dog and I will do unspeakable horrors to you.

And an on-topic edit: dogfights with cops involved take some adjustment. For one thing, you need to get on his tail and don't get off until the deed is done. You will that way A)land most of your shots on the right target, and B) block that one final kill shot from a sysAuth ship, allowing you to claim the kill.

I don't know, maybe it's changed since beta 3, but that was how I learned to do it when I was doing most of my dogfighting.

Lol, no I am Danish :) While it may have happened often, I highly doubt those British pilots would suddenly turn against their American allies and declare total war.

Exactly my sentiment. It's not that I can't learn to hold my fire and look at radar. It's that the system authority's response is quite unreasonable in said situation. It also feels immersion breaking.

I see your point about not attacking a person who has made an error Mikkel.

I am not a programmer so do not know id 'AI' can be made 'I' enough

I have 72 kills many of them with the feds in the fight too, I shot one once and got the circumstances you describe.

I like to think that looking out for them helps make me a better pilot, although that is obviously a moot point

Quite obviously it was Cedric Popkin to anyone who has even half a clue ;)

Dont "fix" this. Its how it works - you dont pull the trigger unless you intend killing whats in front of you.
Seriously? if you will read everything above you, you would realize that this is not a case of "dont pull the trigger".
It will happend, even to the best of us and sometimes it will happen when you are low on armor chasing an elite python with 20 feds near you while the python is exploding. Your only option will be to go full engines and hope that you can fsd out of there.

Please devs, FIX this.

What? No. You're responsible for your own fire. The NPC's should not stop trying to do their job just because you haven't learned situational combat awareness.

The death penalty is rampant in Elite: Dangerous. I don't see how this is immersion breaking at all.

Except it has never happened to me and all I do is bounty hunt. Why? Because, as I've said in other threads, I don't fire in crowded areas like an idiot.

If a scene gets too hot I break off or draw my prey out a good distance.

Very annoying to a point where I think they're just corrupt cops. On top of that I despise the fact when I get hit by SA vessel crossfire they do not earn a wanted flag.

Well you can always just shoot the cops too and take them on if you feel so strongly about it...

But you just too chicken to do that and worry about your wanted status, aren't you? lol :p

REAL bounty hunters hangs around anarchy system where anything goes. ;)
