iEagle, iCourier or Viper3: which has the most powerful vertical / lateral thrusters?

Hi

Is there a website that will tell me this? Most sites have roll/pitch/yaw but never the lateral/vertical thrusters?

I am picking a ship to engineer for a racer, lots of CMDRs are recommending iCourier. There isn't that much in it with these three. They're all fast!!!

I realise the agility I love about the Sidewinder is all about the lateral and vertical thrusters. I love this so much I would rather sacrifice speed for agility.

So, which of the above ships have the best vertical / lateral thrusters. And am I correct in thinking they all improve with DDs etc?

Thanks!

There was an old post somewhere that tested all this stuff and sidewinder, hauler, and adder had the best lateral thrusters.

Try googling "elite dangerous ship acceleration." It was a reddit post.

Sweet!

I think this is the guide CMDR dekot was referring to! It has the spreadsheet CMDR FerosFerioGRT linked!!!!

Super reading. Perfect. (I think, not read it yet! Lots of stats so must be good right??)

Thanks!

Yes that is the original source. Of note, the FdL's massively increased boost multiplier is a big part of why it is so popular (Viper 3&4 only other ships that have this).

There is another guide that notes the differences in thrust when using fa-on vs fa-off. I cannot remember the link, but main takeaways were:

1 - highest acceleration from 0 was fa-off combining all of fwd, lat and vert thrust simultaneously

2 - (this is the obscure part many don't realize) deceleration with fa-on using only lats and verts gets a massive buff compared to fa-off, especially in the 50%->0 range

Note #2 is one of the rare - possibly only - use cases where fa-on provides flat out "better" handling compared to perfectly flown fa-off.

Aside from that single use case, fa-off generally provides advantages in raw handling compared to fa-on, the importance of which is situation, pilot and ship dependent (IMO).

I fly exclusive FA Off so that's proper interesting :)

That is awesome too!

Informed decision here I come!!!

To get to the max speed of an ieagle you gotta boost 3x, viper hits max speed every boost and thus has an higher average speed.

I believe this is only true if the duration of the drag race is short enough. If enough seconds go by the iEagle's higher max speed (maintained in fa-off with leisurely boosts) will eventually tip the scale the other way regarding average speed.

Your point is a good one though. Folks often focus on one number (in this case, max boost speed) without considering the entirety of the task at hand.

iEagle

According to the Thruster Acceleration data on the spreadsheet:
iEagle = 27.84
iCourier = 24.88
Viper3 = 24.95

My Sidey for comparison = 29.96

It is defo Thruster Acceleration which is of interest to me. I have often wondered why I prefer the 'slower' Taipan to the allegedly nimble Gu-97: 36.58 compared to 35.71. Such a minor difference! But enough for me to prefer the Taipan when messing about. :)

I didn't realise that spreadsheet was made by Newton's Gambit CMDRs! Explains why it was completely relevant to my needs. :D

Sweeeeeeet!!!!
